Other Swiss gear
on: July 14, 2016, 06:37:16 PM
Anyone out there got any other gear or goodies from the Swiss army? Lately I've been going backwards, so to speak. Going old school with older better gear, IMO. What I've been looking at is old leather Swiss army bags. They are super expensive but oh so nice! Here a pic I found online and have been conversing with the restorer on these.

Anyone have any Swiss army gear they'd like share?
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I don't have a breadbag for the Salt & Pepper Ruck...but it mounts on the top flap like the later rubberized version.

Meta-50 cook set. It is made to burn solid fuel Meta tablet...like Esbit but much more toxic. In fact Metaldehyde is sold as slug poison. The trap door on the windscreen is to allow adding fuel without lifting the pot by inserting the pot gripper upside-down and sliding in the tablets.

A small alcohol storm cooker. I haven't been able to confirm if it is military issue, but every part including the burner is marked with the Swiss cross and ASM 50 GB

I haven't seen another one like it anywhere on the net.

My Mom has a really great carry-on roller luggage from Swiss army, she found it at the GoodWill for super cheap, new! I looked them up and they are hundreds of dollars, the bag is very well made with great organization.

Shopping at Target 🎯 and these caught the corner of my eye...

Thinking of buying me an old school halberd.
Possibly the original multi-tool. It's a spear. it's a hook (parcels were bigger in those days) and it's an axe!

The traditional backpack for the Swiss Army would be the "Fell Affe" (fur monkey), you can get a nice one for 50 - 100$.
IMO they don't compare to a modern backpack though, as they are heavy and uncomfortable to carry.

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Think you could find a vertical pack saddle made from leather for me over there?

If you've got $180 and a mule, Major Surplus has a Swiss Army mule pack saddle.

Most I've got is an "Alpenflage" camo combat fatigues (pants, hooded coat, attachable small backpack), a WW2 era short shovel and cover, and a breadbag, like shown above.  Oh, and a K31 bayonet,  but no rifle yet.  ; (

You got a picture of that? Also know that shipping cost will be crazy!

It's the pic I posted up in the thread. Don't go out of your way, they are expensive but may be easier there. If you spot one on the cheap snag it.

Swiss Volcano cookset. I will be doing a more in-depth review of this later this week. It's a simple, light and versatile cookset that is ideal for a day out bimbling, to make a cup of tea or some noodles etc.
