SAK Identification Help Needed
on: July 18, 2016, 09:36:15 PM
Hello fellows, after spending some time on SAKWiki and a exchanging few messages with enki_ck I decided to post it here and ask for some more help.

The story goes like this: a coworker of mine got an used SAK for a BDay present. As she showed me I realised it was an actual Vic and not a chinese made one, but not only it was the real deal it was an old one. At first glance I thought it must be an older Climber, my search gave me the original traveller as a response but after talking to enki everything got more confusing.

The tools are large and small knife, the large blade has the crossbow tang stamp, scissors with the screw instead of the rivet, and a regular (to my untrained eyes at least) opener layer (actually the bottle opener doesn't have a half stop) . At the back, reamer without sewing eye and corkscrew (no hook). No T&T on the scales and the logo is a printed shield and cross. I wasn't able to get good pics of the tang stamp (wasn't able to get good pics at all) but I'll post what I have and tomorrow post better ones.

Thanks in advance!!!

Add you other pictures when you have a chance tomorrow!

It could be an original traveller.  Your notes on the awl and the bottle opener half-stop indicate that the knife is pre-1985 (most likely late-70"s or very early-80's), but more pictures are needed.  Especially the small blade and one showing the backside tools open.

Sounds like the same era as my early Huntsman (Woodsman?)!!!

Cool knife!
If you go to SAKWiki - http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Climber
Then go to Climber
then down to variation #2 maybe???  ??? :D -  An earlier model known as the Traveller (1.3702/54591) did not include the keyring (and no hook, as it was not invented yet).

? EARLY TRAVELLER ?

When I mentioned traveller to enki_ck he thought it was strange that it had keyring, which is a spacer and not part of a spring btw, but it doesn't have T&T. I always hear Adam Savage talking about hunting down parts or other thing for his props and collections, but since I'm not really into these hobbies I never got into it. But the thrill of hunt, trying to determine which SAK this is definitely gave me a bit of a rush, really fun!!!

How long is it?  Hard to judge the scale from your pics, but it might be 84mm.

Definitely 91mm, I always end up forgeting something. One of my first thoughts was that it must be a economy line SAK.

This! ^

I can't remember the date on mine but the late 70's early 80's date strmliner posted is probably exactly right for both of them.
