Traveler today for WW and i took along my Bergamasco to get some air, this is another of my favourite knives made by N Codega in Premana, Lombardy   :cheers:

It was a flea market find, for around 3 bucks. It was a bit rusty and discolored, but a bit of TLC brought it back to life.

Indeed! It only needed about a dozen of strokes on a 600 diamond stone, some stropping and voila, it was shaving sharp! Interestingly, somehow I am not able to bring my Opinel to the same sharpness. It's a mystery to me.

Interesting.

My Opi's get very sharp. Hmmmmmmm.....you might try going back to a coarse stone (300 grit or so) and then working down to an 800 or 1200 grit stone. Some of my knives seem to thrive on really fine stones, like 4000 or 6000 grit.

And try a light stropping on a leather belt or strop after you sharpen. Knock the burr off.

Yeah, some more experimenting with different stones might bring better results.

But to be honest I don"t really mind, it's more like a small annoyance. I mean it's still pretty sharp, good for any normal everyday task - do you really need to shave your forearm or cut mm-thin slices of receit paper in the real world? :D - and I don't carry it anyway, as I have much better options. The Opinel is more like just for the sake of having one in the collection.
