Making SAKs without blades
on: September 13, 2008, 05:22:27 PM
Following on the the Bladeless SAK thread.  I thought it might be an idea to have a think about making such beasts.

As someone who uses the blade on their SAK more than anything else it seems funny to consider building them without but these are strange times and I live in a peculiar country.

So what tools would be good on Swiss Army Knifeless, or whatever you'd call it

Here's what's out there already...

,

Here's all I've got, my DL CT and a Klein bladeless toy SAK (had to borrow it) :)

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

It's difficult to imagine a Sak without a blade, but if I had to pick the tool's I'd want that would be safe to use wherever you are, then I'd go for...

Magnifying Glass
Bit's and Driver from the Cybertool range.
Can and Bottle Openers
Scissor's
Keyring
Plus scales
Pliers

And call it the ''bugger off it's legal'' :D

I think that's what I'd throw in mine, although you need something to match with the mag glass, doncha? Maybe a dedicated phillips, or the combo tool for S*** and giggles. Didn't Swissbianco make a bladeless SAK a few months ago. I think it had pliers, scissors, and a hook with the file on the back. Called it his First-aid SAK. Stay-glow plus scales, of course.

I forgot about that one  well remembered.  Here it is...

His logic was he always had a dedicated knife so didn't require one on the SAK in his first aid kit.

Actually Stayglow would make sence, as it takes the Sak one step further from tactical :)

Always a pleasure to help :D

To be honest, short of breaking one, there's not much hope, as the people who own them, tend to hang on to them :-\

Little known fact: if you bring together nine or more stayglow scales you can start nuclear fission.

Hence in the photo I stuck to eight, they still seem to be getting pretty excited though :P

Shouldn't be that hard, just have a SAK without the knife layer. Choose any knife you like, and take off the knife layer.

Fan of the Leatherman mini-bit driver and the Vic backspring philips.

As he said. Making a SAG out of a SAK you like is much easier. You can keep the stock pins and everything, you're just removing one layer. :D

Hard as it may be to admit, I don't think the solution to the energy crisis is hidden in SAK scales.
