A very interesting take on camping.
on: August 04, 2016, 04:09:03 PM
I've known the Wood Trekker blog from some of his axe and knife reviews, but came across this project that he's been working on that he's dubbed "Classic Backpacking".

The idea behind it can be read here.

The research into the equipment and some of his trips can be read here and here.  The material that was being used for shelters I found very surprising.

He does a couple of other trips as well and the whole thing strikes me as being very well thought out and anyone who has ever read "Nessmuk" or the like should be interested I think.

Great reading, thanks!  My employers are probably less excited at how much time I spent reading through all this, but oh well

I agree with his point that, in the real world, nothing actually keeps you warm long term if it's wet, not cotton, not wool, not synthetic. It all becomes minor degrees of still being dangerous.  The possible exception being lofted synthetic "down" as long as it keeps it's shape.
