Police Security Little Nellie Elite
on: August 08, 2016, 02:33:07 PM
I just bought an upgrade to my go to flashlight for those times I hear a strange noise on the property and I have to go and inspect the premises. My previous go to flashlight for those rare outdoor times was a 4 D cell Defiant flashlight that had 500 lumens on tap. I had bought that at home depot a few years back for not a lot of money if memory serves me correctly. I liked it because of its all aluminium construction, strike bezel, and heft. I never felt unarmed when I had to go out in the middle of the night to find out what was going on. This particular flashlight features a high beam, low beam, and a strobe. Accessing each required the user to press the button quickly in succession until the desired feature showed up. I did have one major issue with this flashlight, and that it was very cold to the hands on cold nights.

Well I noticed a nicer flashlight of similar ilk at Walmart. Walmart's flashlight brand is their unhappily named Police Security line. I have to laugh at the competing themes here with name brands such as Defiant and Police Security. Anyways, the flashlight that caught my eye is a longer 6 D Cell behemoth that throws 1050 lumens. I liked the reach and coverage of the Defiant 4D, and the Police Security 6D is a whole lot brighter. Best part, they actually have a rubber middle part to keep that hand nice and warm on cold nights. The flashlight offers more features but with a soft button that doesn't require a full depress to cycle through the modes. Not that keen on the Police Security branding...but I guess that is where my hand goes...so I won't have to look at it much while the flashlight is in use. At least it isn't in Tactical black. I kind of like the shinny silver of this one...as I don't expect to be skulking around my property with it. No need to sneak up on anything. In fact, I want them to see me loud and clear. I guess with this blazing torch on, they won't be able to tell if it black or rainbow at that.

Here is a link to the flashlight.

Why don't you just admit you need a walking cane and get one, already?! Stop pretending it's a flashlight!

I actually have a walking cane that contains a manual winding generator with a rechargeable battery in it. This is used to power the front light and flashing rear red light.

I thought it was pretty ssmurf when I first laid eyes on it. The only way to make that cane any better would be to add a backup alarm.  :D

Well...I certainly love 1050 lumens on tap. I took it out last night when my neighbour complained that her furnace wasn't working. I checked to see if her pilot light was out...negative. I then checked to see if her programmable thermostat was on a wrong setting...negative. I couldn't figure out the issue and she ultimately called in a service technician who quickly found out it was the thermostat wiring that was at fault. I was thankful the light cannon had two lower settings. On the lowest power setting, I could use it somewhat comfortably indoors. At full bore, the light overpowered anything it struck. Outside though, man oh man, why did I get so excited that I could illuminate an industrial wall several blocks away! :D
