The Fantastic $5 Multitool Challenge!
on: August 08, 2016, 05:52:16 PM
Some of you may remember the original Great Two Dollar Challenge and the Terriffic $20 Challenge and I alluded to the potential for a $5 Challenge in the future.  Well, the future is NOW!

The rules, for those not familiar, are, that I have to buy ten tools, at $5US or less including shipping for them to be valid.  I will then have to review each tool and determine if they were worth the $5 I spent on them.  Off to eBay I go!

Here is what I have so far:

1- BLACK UTILITY POCKET KNIFE BOX CUTTER BOTTLE OPENER SCREWDRIVER EDC MULTI TOOL

2- Outdoor Keys Holder Screwdriver Wrench Carabiner Quickdraw Keyring Multi Tool

3- Outdoor EDC Portable Pocket Multi Tool Keyring Bottle Opener Wrench Screwdriver

4- EDC Gear Pocket Multi Tool Stainless Steel Tactical Keychain Wrench (bidding

5- 20 in 1 Multi-Tools Metal Black Stainless Pocket Tool Keychain

6- CHIC Outdoor Survival Stainless Steel Multi Tool Plier Portable Compact Fashion

7- 12 In 1 Survival Stainless Steel Screwdriver Wrench Opener EDC Pocket Multi Tool

8- EDC Punisher Multi Tool Pocket Pry Bar Crowbar Wrench Bottle Opener Outdoor Camp

9- EDC Pocket folding Knife Cut Survival Multi tool folding keychain Bottle Opener

10- EDC Multi Tool Screwdriver Keychain Bottle Opener Kit For Outdoor Camping Hiking

As you can see, we have a real mixed bag this time!  Carabiner tools, knife based tools, and even a plier based tool!   :tu:

I will say one thing for sure- if this had been the $10 Challenge, or had I been in the US and not had to deal with exorbitant shipping costs, there is an awful lot of options in this price range.  I was unable to bid on a used Leatherman Sidekick because the seller didn't deal internationally (so why list it internationally?  ???), a couple of Gerber MP600 variants that came too high with shipping (but wouldn't have in the US) and some other stuff that looked pretty interesting as well.  I have no doubt that with a small amount of patience and some homework, a US based member could get a heck of a deal.  I'd love to see the results of everyone else's $5 Challenge attempts!   :pok:

But, this is the $5 Challenge, not the Complaining About Geography Challenge so let's get on with it!

I'm going to post the contender photos in the Cheap & Cheerful section again, but I will link to them to (try to!) keep everything straight!

Isn't that last one a blatant copy of a tool designed by one of our own?

I come across this very often. Usually with LM Minis.

But, this is the $5 Challenge, not the Complaining About Geography Challenge so let's get on with it!

There should be a 'Complaining About Geography' Challenge, but it would be grim.

Aren't all these OPTs and small tools copies? Wrench That Fits, LM Mako, that punisher opt, that black thing with the rotating part, the octopus bike tool, and the RUT cutter.
