Companion is a really good cheese knife, I keep one in the kitchen, all regular knives were in dishwasher so I tried the Mora out, damn, never going back to a regular butter knife or junky cheese knife I got as a "gift" from a wedding

Has anyone seen this Mora before?
Looks like the Bushcraft Black without the black. And at a pretty decent price too.

It's been around for a few years;think it was out before the black, update to the 2000 although I prefer the 2000  and garbergs blade  :tu:

I've not checked, but I think it might have a shorter blade that the Black.

I dont know how I have missed that one.
Im a bit confused about the description on Hennies page though. It says: "Triflex is harder and very resistant to breakage compared to a stainless steel blade. It is also easy to light a fire with a Triflex blade and a fire steel."
But from what I read about triflex steel, it is a steel where the carbon has been reduced on the outside making it soft. So you get a hard core and softer steel closer to the outside, preventing the hard core from breaking. (Like laminated steel without actually laminating it)
But that would make it fairly useless on a firesteel, unless you strike the steel with the knives edge.

I've never had a Triflex so dont know Grathr but i file all my Moras spines ss and carbon and they all spark a ferro rod,I think though carbon is better with a flint.

My Garberg and  Eldris throw exeptionally good sparks.
Anyone own a triflex blade that could educate us?

Edit:
At about 13:28 this guy uses it with a firesteel without trouble.

I must have misunderstood something about Triflex

Triflex was one of those unusual models (description wise) that seemingly went away very fast

:salute:

I thought it was like laminated

Laminated
This unique blend of steels is effectively stainless steel wrapped around carbon steel. The core carbon steel is exposed at the edge, providing the benefits of sharpness and edge retention that metal provides. The steel exposed on the sides of the knife provide protection and flexibility. The laminated steel used is oil-hardened AISI O1 tool steel, hardened to 58–60 HRC. More interesting information about O1 can be found on the Uddeholm website.
Triflex
Found on only a few knives, Triflex is carbon steel that is harder near the edge and softer near the spine. This makes the blade more flexible and less prone to breakage. This steel is now discontinued in Mora products; I have read from unofficial sources that this was due to supply and quality issues. Triflex steel was made from C75 steel, hardened to 58–60 HRC.

If soft at the spine possibly no good for a spark with a flint ?

From the way I understand it, soft steel is bad at throwing sparks.
But it might be that "soft" at the spine compared to the edge, still is pretty hard.

Khukuri are tempered harder on the blade edge and there softer at the spine, although due to the curved spines I've never tried filing the spines to make a spark  :-\

could be similar to Fallkniven where the lamination is to reinforce the harder steel inside (in a manner of speaking)

That would be my guess.  We're probably talking "relatively" soft compared to the cutting edge, but still a heck of a lot harder than a ferro rod.
