Post for fellow members also suffering from SAK OCD and people interested in the minutiae of Vic model codes
Did anyone notice this?
I was updating the annual Alox page in the Wiki with the Evoke for 2024 -
I noticed that the product code root was a duplicate of the Hunter Pro - ie 0.9415
I was making some updates to the Hunter Pro page and had a look at the model numbers there - And I think I worked out the mystery
The model code refers to the
frame of the Victorinox models
Please refer to the images below from the Wiki page.
- The first Hunter Pros had a model code root of 0.9410 - OK fine that is the new code
- When they introduced the lanyard loop onto the spring we got a new model code 0.9411
- Then they introduced the Alox models which had a slot for a pocket clip in the frame so another new model code 0.9415
- In Vic model codes blade types are always identified in the suffix of the model code eg W for wavy/serrated; M for one handed etc
- Note: The scale type and colour is also identified in the suffix of the model code eg 3 for black
- When the Evokes came out - They have the same frame as the Alox Hunter Pros with the lanyard loop and the clip in the frame so they are also 0.9415s
- As it is only the blade that is different with the thumb-stud in the Evokes - this is catered for by the D in the model code suffix !!
Brilliant detective work and theory - Don't you think!!
Only one slight problem
- According to my theory above the clip point bladed models shouls also be
0.9415s but they are
0.9425sAny thoughts?
Maybe the c-p blade is designated enough of a change to warrant a new root code .... when the thumb stud is not ?
