Reading the thread made me take a pic with the thread on the laptop.
Just an old Pioneer, brass liner, saved from the grave last year. Badly damaged knife tip got re-profiled and now looks pretty good. Naughty previous owner.

A knife that originally belonged to my great grandfather, the Pioneer. It's from the mid-eighties.

Very nice pic! Looks like it's aged to perfection. Picture makes it look like a orangey-red (or a red orange  :D )

By the way, anyone know how many of us are in this great club? Roll call maybe?

I believe the Beginner is the thinnest SAK ever made by Victorinox. It is the epitome of minimalism.

Maybe the Alox Student could compete with it : http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Student+Victorinox
(I do have the Cellidor one, that is much thicker!)

It probably could. I measured the 74mm Beginner and a 84mm Alox Excelsior with calipers. The Beginner was a mere 4.5mm thick and the Excelsior, visibly thicker, measured 5.3mm. Would be interesting to see what some examples of the Student measure. Unfortunately the SAKWiki has photos of them but doesn't show relative or measured thickness. I've little doubt though that they're quite thin. As a benchmark with a more common one, the 84mm Alox Bantam is 5.8mm thick.

Count me in! Here's my Safari Hunter that I bought at a yard sale as a kid. This was my third knife, I believe.
