Leaving for vaca first week of October and no internet so I will have to wait until I return ;) :tu: Been a while since I have carried a traditional folder since I started carrying SAKs they sorta took a backseat ::) I do enjoy carrying them when I do though

Alright....  Well, I look forward to your posts when you do.  ;)

My journey has been a little different.  I've been carrying a SAK since about 1980, and I didn't own a traditional pocket knife until 2007ish.  I haven't really though about it much, but if it weren't for me finally getting into plier-based MTs, I would have never owned a traditional, I reckon.  So, I guess I have Tim Leatherman to blame for the whole thing.  Yeah, that's it...

I guess I was a very young boy when I got my first knife and it was a traditional :tu: I have always loved knives and gadgets  so SAKs fit me to a tee once I finally started carrying them :tu: I had a few fake SAKs when I was younger and don't guess I had a real one until 2008 :o

I am from Tennessee though and I hear we are the knife collecting capital of the world   Everyone I know has a collection of trads but hardly anyone I know carries SAKs or MTs :-\

OK so I think I have the badge setup correctly  When we get a proper longer list I will find out how to award it to all of you at once rather than you having to request it

It's not much different in southern MO.  I was the only one among my friends that had a SAK.  Nearly everyone else was carrying a stockman--mostly Schrade.  I was 12 when the PST was introduced, and I don't recall seeing one until I was nearly in high school.  Even today the only SAKs and MTs around my family or friends are the ones I've given away but, sadly, It doesn't seem as many folks carry knives at all anymore except in the rural areas where I live.

kaput, can you tell us anything about your Northwoods?  Model name?  Is this one of the older Northwoods before the KnivesShipFree acquisition?  As I understand it, since Derrick Bohn purchased Northwoods, they are produced by Queen.
Yeah I'll do my best. I'm not a collector, but from what I can tell these northwoods have cultivated quite the cult following and are selling out within minutes of release dates, which I believe is only once a year in limited quantities (unnumbered). I am a user  :salute: . But when I first saw these They talked to me and I could tell they'd be a right fit for me, and so far I have been completely satisfied.

These are handmade, I believe by GEC, northwoods name bought by KSF. I think your right that they used to be made by Queen. I believe Northwoods was once originally manufactured in Hillsboro/Portland area of the Pacific Northwest. Hence the "North" "Woods". Also some other models are named after famous prominent streets right here in Portland. The Fremont Jack, there is a huge Fremont bridge downtown Portland that separates the east and west sides of Portland crossing the Willamette river. Also the Burnside Jack, another street downtown that separates the street naming of the north and south sides of Portland.

The one I have is the Michigan Jack, which I believe is where KSF has relocated too. I love it. The sheepsfoot/wharncliffe shaped blade with swedge on top  :tu: . The denim micarta look. The unfinished heattreat left on the blade.  :tu: :tu: . The walk and talk, the half stop and EO notch  :tu: :tu: :tu:

Any other questions just holler, hopefully I can get half of them right.   :D

I absolutely love this knife! :D

Thanks for the info kaput.  It's nice to learn new stuff about these beauties.  I do love that knife, and I can imagine how great that denim Micarta feels in the hand.

As soon as you mentioned GEC, nothing else really needed to be said about the quality.  ;)  I really have no desire to own a slipjoint that is of higher perceived quality than a GEC, especially considering what I would have to pay for it.  I say "perceived quality" because, other than aesthetics, I believe quality improvement becomes difficult to define at these levels.  If you're like me, once you spend enough on something it becomes something too precious to use and at that point the whole idea of quality sort of loses it value anyway.  A POS slipjoint will sit on a shelf just as well as a $$$ custom.  I understand there is "art" involved here, but...meh...

Just some rambling thoughts for Tuesday.   :P  :D

I just put in for my badge. :tu:

Haven't been following along as much lately, been a little busy, but I'm glad to see that the traditional joy is spreading beyond the challenge!
May it be as the Pattern has chosen.
