For today, I went with a personal favorite, a late-70's Camillus TL-29. :tu:

OK, no-one is allowed to post any more pics of their Barlows, you're making me want to spend money. :twak:

I was going to carry a Old Timer 80T today but for some reason I changed my mind.

Day 4
S&M Keystone Barlow CPM154.

Steve. I meant to ask, how are you liking your mod?  :tu:

This one is actually the second Imperial that I got, it's unmodded for now but It may get the treatment as well.  It turned out really well , a great slicer.

:2tu:  Great!!!

After three days of using the Opinel, here is my summary report:
Low cost high value.
Round handle is super comfortable in hand.
Perfectly designed blade cuts extremely well.
Wood handle swells after cleaning, makes it almost impossible to deploy the blade. I have to leave it in a bag of rice every night so I can use it the next day.
Round handle takes up way too much space in pocket.

While I find the knife is interesting and stylish, it is not my favorite
Opinel was a great design in that part of the world at that time period, but that is all.
It still is a fine choice as a low cost work knife to leave on work bench or tool bag, but not for daily carrying.

Opinel, OUT!

I agree on all points. I keep one in my desk at work. They are amazing for food prep; I use it at lunch, clean off the blade, toss it back in the drawer and it's good to go the next day. They're little pocket cutting lasers.

Day 5

Buck #302 Solitaire. My first Buck, first traditional. It's a great performer, perfect pull and snap, handle is nice and slim, blade cuts well if a bit on the thick side. My only criticism is that brass bolsters need to be cleaned up periodically, but hey — that's just what Buck does, and they look slick when they're all shiny.

May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

Still trading between the  Schrade 340T and the Buck 301, but would like to introduce another pattern to those who may be unfamiliar with it

Case - Physician's knife, single  blade, flat end for crushing pills

Here is another one just for fun I am thinking of carrying one day soon in the spirit of the challenge
Imperial Knife (old), two blade jackknife with bone handles in the "easy opener" pattern

Note cut out in the scales near the bail, where the main blade can be opened with the thumb and index finger
Great for heavy spring, nail breaker knives,  or those with partially disabled,  arthritic, or weak hands

Same pattern made by Camillus ( also old)
Sadly the manufacturer's name is almost unreadable on the tang
Posted to show the knife in closed position

Schrade USA "Middleman' Stockman for today.   A knife that's served my grandfather and I both well for over 30 years, more than 20 in his possession (sometime in the '80s until 2006), and from I got it in 2006 to today.  Back when Schrade was a company producing their stuff in the USA, it was some of the best stuff ever, even their American made tactical type knives (I like my $2 flea market find Cliphanger CH3 better than an $30 Spyderco), and the ST1 Tough Tool are great.  That's why really, my favorite knife brand is American made Schrades.

Schrade  34OT   Middleman Stockman by cody6268, on Flickr

I've been after the larger 8OT and it's relatives the "Blazer" with the serrated sheepsfoot, or even the linerlocking main blade version for awhile now cheaply, but this thread is making me want one even more.

This Remngton Canoe knife today.
The small blade is a real nail breaker.
I wonder if leaving it half open for a while might soften the backspring a bit?
