Day 5
This was my first adventure into newer steels. It is the knife that as hurt my wallet the most, not because it cost a lot. It was really reasonably cheap but it led me to try a lot more knives in the newer steels.

I gave it a try because if I didn't like it, it could still serve as a nice second and or a dress knife.

The Queen #51 BEM Dogleg Jack is 3 ½” long, with Birds Eye Maple and D2 steel, made in 2009 if my memory serves me correctly.

Schrade USA "Middleman' Stockman for today.   A knife that's served my grandfather and I both well for over 30 years, more than 20 in his possession (sometime in the '80s until 2006), and from I got it in 2006 to today.  Back when Schrade was a company producing their stuff in the USA, it was some of the best stuff ever, even their American made tactical type knives (I like my $2 flea market find Cliphanger CH3 better than an $30 Spyderco), and the ST1 Tough Tool are great.  That's why really, my favorite knife brand is American made Schrades.

Schrade  34OT   Middleman Stockman by cody6268, on Flickr

I've been after the larger 8OT and it's relatives the "Blazer" with the serrated sheepsfoot, or even the linerlocking main blade version for awhile now cheaply, but this thread is making me want one even more.

Schrades are awesome!!!! That's a nice 34OT!!!

This Remngton Canoe knife today.
The small blade is a real nail breaker.
I wonder if leaving it half open for a while might soften the backspring a bit?
(Image removed from quote.)

:like:  Nice Canoe bud!  It might help,  that and one of those high tech super lubes. Make sure the mainsprings under that blade are well oiled too...sometimes, a tacky backspring will add to the hard pull!

Thanks! That's ringing a bell, so I think you're right about the jigging pattern. :salute: I kinda wish I had kept the boxes or written these things down. Oh well.

You're welcome.  W.R. Case College can always be of help when trying to identify: http://www.wrcase.com/case_college/handles/jiggingpatterns.php

Steve, you really can't beat them on a quality to price ratio. They arn't as good as a good Case, but a helluva lot better than a bad Case...and either way, they're a quarter the price :tu:

Others that use them could tell you better but I examined my cousin's Trapper and it was extremely well made and very sharp!!!
