So many beautiful knives!

My Case Trapper mini just arrived in the mail :mail:
It looks great!
Unfortunately it had a bit more blade play than what I like. :(
For a moment I considered sending it back, but decided that this was going to be a user anyway, So I gave it a few taps with a small hammer instead. Now the bladeplay is acceptable and I have no excuse not to use it. ;)

Lining up some traditional variation for the rest of the week and weekend; the good, the bad and the ugly.
Maybe some retail therapy over the weekend to mix it up a little more.

Is that a recent development?  I probably haven't bought a new case in 7-8 years, but I was having good luck with tightness and build quality at that time.  Actually, my 70's Cases have more blade play issues than my more recent ones.

They can be a bit hit or miss. My yellow Derlin ones have no issues, but I had a red bone SS Trapper whose spey blade would wiggle just waving the knife. :o

Im a bit surprised by that. You would think a company that claims to make a high quality product, and sells their product at a "high quality price" would have made sure there where no blade play in their knives.

On the other hand, did the old traditional knives a 100 years a go have a lot of blade play?

Based on what I've red on the net, it's a hit miss deal resulting in many folks (including myself) not buying one unless you can check it in the store first. Kinda the general consensus over in the Trads section of BF too (at least it was, haven't been over there much this year).

That does not make it easy for us living in places with no proper knife shops.

Wobble is an easy fix on a Case (and others)....a wobbly Schrade (with Swindon Key construction) is a lost cause unless you disassemble the knife.

Yep....my closest real knife shop is 75 miles away...unless you count Wally World. I don't buy many new Cases anymore....mostly GEC's lately because they are awesome and have a better track record on build quality.   Most of the Cases I bought back in the 90's were fine.

Honestly, I think we SAK collectors are a bit spoiled when it comes to blade wobble, myself included.  I've owned enough vintage slipjoints with some wobble to believe it's an accepted thing, within reason, of course.
