Honestly, I think we SAK collectors are a bit spoiled when it comes to blade wobble, myself included.  I've owned enough vintage slipjoints with some wobble to believe it's an excepted thing, within reason, of course.

Exactly. I have a Case humpback Stockman that has some play in the main blade, but not too bad. Perfectly useable. :tu:

Day 9

Queen Copperhead in curly zebrawood today. Couldn't use my camera on this one because it's hot and humid, the lens fogged up when I took it outside. So my phone had to do. That wood still looks nice though!

May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

1970s Craftsman "Old Crafty" Stockman made by Camillus for Sears Craftsman.   I don't know what was the problem with early stainless in my area, but literally almost every 1970s era stainless knife I come across in my area was sharpened with a grinder.  I paid $15 for this at a local "military surplus store" (which is really more of a police supply and non military or police used knives place) earlier this year.

Looks great!!!!  Really pretty wood!!!!

If you slip your camera into a zip lock bag and let it warm up to the ambient outside temp a bit, it won't fog when you take it out of the bag. It fogged because it's in the colder house and moving out into the hot humid air. If it's in the bag...the moisture will condense on the outside of the bag.

We had to do this to protect cameras when shooting a winter football games/events and then going inside to shoot candids at the press conference or outside the locker room. Having an extra camera, wrapped and sealed in a bag next to a hand warmer (in an outside pocket) allowed you to shoot inside immediately. I used to hear that the NFL photogs had gear stowed inside the equipment rooms to cover everything inside. This was back in the 70's/80's.

Very cool!!!!!    The older stainless steels needed to be ground pretty thin to get a good edge. Schrade had the "Razor Blade Stainless" Line that had a thinner edge grind.

I've have Case surgical stainless knives in the past that would have benefited from a thinning of the edge.

My Camillus TL-29 from the 70's has no edge problems at all. It was good when I got it, and thanks to my Lansky it's now a razor......

But it's carbon, right? I have one too and it's amazing!!!  That's the difference. Camillus carbon is famous (think CS Carbon V) and the older stainless on any of them is fine if it's ground thin enough.  Look at the old Uncle Henrys, their  Schrade+ blades get a edge buff to thin it somewhat and they are great. From what I've observed over the years (60's-90's) with my Dad, uncles, friends and at my gunshop, older guys that grew up with carbon steel knives (Camillus. Schrade Robeson, Case etc) that tried stainless were never happy with the edge on them and either "fixed" it (file/grinder) or tried a different knife.  Just my observations. Old Bucks had good edge geometry but the stainless was very hard to sharpen...it did stay sharp a long time though. I have one of Dad's old Camillus made Buck 301's that took me 8 years of on and off puttering around with it to finally get it right.  :D

Meant no bad reflection Camillus at all.  :2tu:

The newer grades of stainless were better!

Yes, it's carbon. I prefer carbon over stainless, though my Buck 301 takes an amazing edge as well. :tu:
