Day 9

Queen Copperhead in curly zebrawood today. Couldn't use my camera on this one because it's hot and humid, the lens fogged up when I took it outside. So my phone had to do. That wood still looks nice though!

(Image removed from quote.)

Just absolutely beautiful wood.

Looks great!  I am a big fan of copperhead patterns and the way they smooth the back edge of the tang when the blades are folded.  This is especially nice on a Queen, because that edge is notoriously sharp on their knives.

Traditional Challenge Day 10

#73 Great Eastern Cutlery Northfield Scout Single Blade Trapper, w/carbon blade & Blood Red Bone scales

Today I have my #73, with the infamous "bear trap" backspring.  I used it for some food prep last night and decided to slip it into my pocket this morning.  The drop-point blade is useful for a large variety of tasks and, though it is one of my larger slipjoints, the thin, single-blade profile makes it comfortable to carry even in slacks.  It is a great camping/outdoors knife, and there's no need for a blade lock here.

Dug out the knife I've owned the longest for today, an Opinel No. 7 carbon that must be nearly 30 years old.

If you slip your camera into a zip lock bag and let it warm up to the ambient outside temp a bit, it won't fog when you take it out of the bag. It fogged because it's in the colder house and moving out into the hot humid air. If it's in the bag...the moisture will condense on the outside of the bag.

We had to do this to protect cameras when shooting a winter football games/events and then going inside to shoot candids at the press conference or outside the locker room. Having an extra camera, wrapped and sealed in a bag next to a hand warmer (in an outside pocket) allowed you to shoot inside immediately. I used to hear that the NFL photogs had gear stowed inside the equipment rooms to cover everything inside. This was back in the 70's/80's.

Thanks SG, that's great advice. I'll have to try that next time, probably soon since the weather has been just terrible here lately. Feels like every day has been 85 degrees and 85% humidity!

Day 10

A third of the way done! I gotta say, I love this challenge because I can switch it up all the time. I have been thinking in the past about starting e.g. the Power challenge, but ultimately I don't because — even though I like the PowerLock —  I'm afraid I can't bring myself to carry JUST that tool all month long. But this traditional challenge is perfect. So anyway, on to day 10: another Case #47 in blue Calypso bone. I like three spring stockmans. Stockmen?

May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

Yeah, it's called a "medium stockman," but that name more commonly refers to the two spring #18, which is also slightly smaller. The #47 doesn't exist in as many families as the #18. I actually don't have any of the two spring ones, but I like the extra room you get in the three spring version. Less likelihood of blade rub.
May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

Good point. My 048 has a fair bit of blade rub. My 018 has a little bit. My Bucks don't have that issue at all......

Case CV 1965-1969 (originally my great-uncle's) Folding Hunter w/lanyard hole in modern Case sheath on my belt, and 62031 LHR electrician's knife with hawkbill in my pocket backed up by a Bear Jaws earlier today while doing some mowing, this evening while lounging around the house in gym shorts (which really make a bulky knife uncomfortable to carry), I slipped the LF&C Whittler in my pocket.   I swear, this eighty year old knife is the best made one I own.  Snap on this medium frame knife is the same as many "large" frame knives I own.

JD, are any of your Bucks double liner models? That's how they adjusted the blade rub back in the old days....neat idea I thought.
