Hi John,
what does the 'SMV' logo/stamp represent?
cheers, John
From what I have been told SMV stands for Schweizer Messerschmiede Verein (Swiss Cutler Association)
The blades usually have E or W on the reverse there are various theories regarding this stamp ...... assuming that E is Elsener and W is Wenger
That the blades are produced by third party cutlers and are returned to Elsener or Wenger for quality control (and maybe heat treat) and to be assembled
That the knives are produced by small third part cutlers and then returned to Elsener or Wenger for quality control
This info comes from a very keen collector of Wenger soldiers and does not sound out of place
Any more ideas or theories or even facts if you must ?
