Poncho, I had to go back aways to see the Ranger with camping logo that you used to feature in your posts on this topic. There must have been some subliminal suggestion in your posts because this look grew on me to the point where I just had to get a camping logo Ranger for myself.

Now, you are featuring a Ranger mod with a magnifier.  I saw someone else post a similar mod some time ago that also featured an inline awl. I think it is a useful tool that I would love to have but it's no longer a Ranger. Bring the camping logo Ranger back buddy!!!

Jim

P.S., Wonderful photos!!!

Thanks for the kind words Jim :salute: I am quite happy with my mod though and have carried it everyday since i made it with the exception of challenges where I don't :salute: Also mine has an inline awl

I would love to see you guys post some pics of Rangers in here as well :tu: Also since there is no model like my mod I dubbed it the Master Ranger and that is why I post it in here

That's right! I forgot about your Master Ranger. When you first mentioned it, I was thinking "Where do I buy one?"

Jim

I wished I could have only added the inline Phillips and not the mag glass (using the double openers across from the Phillips) but it wasn't possible so I just put the whole layer in   It would have made it much closer to the Ranger than this one but I still really love this SAK and am very happy to have made it :tu: I may get my old camping scale Ranger out next month and get some pics of it :salute: :like:

For me, the magnifier is my major weakness.  If a SAK has a mag, I probably have to have it! The mag is one of compelling features of your Master Ranger. The inline awl is another feature that I find hard to resist and probably my most used Alox tool.

What a toolset!!!

Agreed!  Although I wouldn't mind having a "Master Ranger", which is what Poncho calls his mod that adds an inline awl, philips driver & magnifier.

I was happy with my one Ranger purchase until Poncho teased us (quite some time ago) with post after post featuring his Camping Logo Ranger. Finally, I just had to get one for myself.  Pictured below is my new old stock in box Camping Logo Ranger together with my other Ranger with the standard red scales.

Very nice! That's what Amazon advertised mine as, even though it was just standard scales. But the knife was so cool, I didn't really mind that much  :like: :like:

So, what do you call a Ranger with pliers?

Answer: a Handyman

Poncho has a mod he calls the Master Ranger and I wish Victorinox added that tool set to its offerings. Poncho's mod adds an inline philips driver, magnifier and inline awl to the Ranger. It could be a Swiss Champ if you swapped the inline awl for the fish scaler. What if all you wanted to do was add pliers to the Ranger? Victorinox has that model--it's called a Handyman!

Pictured below is a new in box, old stock Handyman together with a standard Ranger...

Thanks! I do have a number of vintage boxes but no where near the amount of FolderBeholder. She had an impressive inventory of NIB SAKs from old stock. The Craftsman is a cousin of the Handyman (like Tinker and Spartan) in that the Craftsman has the Philips driver in place of the corkscrew.

Folder beholder does have some drool-worthy stuff!

Here's the old ones I've held on to...  just sold a NIB 70's economy Camper and kind of regret it.... but the 60's Elinox Camper helps me deal with the loss.  :D

Included my one and only Ranger as to not completely derail the thread...

Very nice collection! I think Folder Beholder motivated me to look for some older NIB SAKs. You have an enviable collection of older boxed SAKs!

I am looking for a Ranger but don't want to buy new. Will trade and will puchase a good tool version. Scale condition is not paramount, I will most likely recsale in a Plus format.  If you have a good Ranger tool set, send me a note.  Scratches and a little real use wear is not an issue but the body must have good snap throughout the tool set.  No missing or broken tools or springs. Thx

Looking good, Poncho!  I was perfectly happy with my Ranger until I saw your Camping Logo Ranger and had to have one of my own. Here is my 2 Ranger stable:
