We plan peace and quiet! Used to have family, kids, dogs, police (bro in law) but the old ones are gone and the young have families of their own. Not into any long drives to visit right now.

Why would he need a fork to carve a wooden statuette... oh, yeah, never mind, carry on...

   I can see how that needs an explanation.  I used the fork to eat my soup with while I carved the wooden statuette. 
   A friend sent me a photo of his very well used Classic.  The scales eventually broke and fell apart, so he carved (esculpir) the wooden ones from a cedar window blind.  Scissor spring is broken.  Another Small SAK still in service. 
   The Old Hickory knife belonged to my pal Mark's mother.  He kept it for me when she died.  She bought it when she married in the 1940s.  The Othello brand (Anton Wingen, Solingen) fork was something I bought from an old woman 40 plus years ago.  It came with a Cattaraugus kitchen knife.  I swapped the knife for a Case camp knife years ago and kept the fork.  Best wishes.  G

That's how I do it, too. It makes the soup last longer.

 

The scales look great. Your friend is quite an artist, managing that quality. I would never believe he was blind.



Just one remark: I don't think you can call a woman old until she's in her 60s. If she was 40 plus, I'd say she was still middle aged.

Hi Tony,
     The cedar scales aren't that pretty, but it kept the old Classic in use.  He bought it at the Subic Bay naval base.  Original scales had USN on blue cellidor.  I have been trying to get him to join MTo.  Best wishes. G

     I haven't posted a Small Sak photo for a while.  The last month was nothing but small SAK.  All MiniChamp.  Every day.  I took a spin down to Dollar Tree this morning for some chips.  I kept my tether than I used for securing the Mini to my belt loop.  With a Huntsman on the other end.  Felt just like a rock in my pocket.  I got un-used to carrying a bigger knife.  I will have to remedy that. 
     I used this photo on the challenge thread.  Might be good for one more airing.  I thought about giving the green survival knife (that is how it was described) to some lad.  After I sharpened it a little, I decided to retain it.  Any youngster who would play with this thing could only be able to count to 9 and a half on his fingers in math class.  I might stick it in my waist pack.  Might help me 'survive'.  Something?  Best wishes.  G

I dit start today to get my Pocketedc a lot smaller and lighter: so instead of the Swisschamp which dit move to my Office Backpack I have now the Minichamp for the Nail Cleaner, Scissors, Tweezers and the Böker Boston as my main blade..

Did not work out as i was planing, I can’t be whitouth this Swisschamp, even if the Minichamp also solves most of its tasks as well, so i decide to make my EDC  a tiny bit bigger by keeping the Mini on my Keychain but refuse to carry all 3 Knives ^^
The Minichamp also contains a Nail Cleaner that is much more pleasant to use than the tip of the Metallfile of the Swisschamp …

Question... how does one break all the springs on a Minichamp?  I just ran into a poor Minichamp that didn't look abused but all the springs are broken.  I see a little bit of corrosion but not enough to cause that.

I'm on the Cheap side here ang have got good results ( at least for me) by using super glue to mend cracked scales.
For some total breaks I've used JB Weld to fill in areas on them.
Also, when I just want to change the colors I'll look for an SD/Classic and use their scales.  Had one guy, on the eBay, that sold them, refurbished, with new scales and scale tools for less than the price on new scales alone.

Almost seems impossible unless they just tried to break them.

I haven't taken it apart yet but, I can see the pen blade, emergency blade, and file springs are definitely broken.  The others appear to be cracked but I'm not positive yet.
