I think the gift of a SAK is a very special gift. One that recognizes the versatility and value of the thing. And the classic is a SAK that punches way above its weight class. I can only conclude that your wife is a very perceptive woman!  :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thanks Carl!  She is.  She's only carried the Classic her father got her in 1978 and a Sears 4 way.  Never had the need or desire for anything else.  It's well used believe me!

Thats very funny, as its the same combo my own better half carries.  :tu:

I think in many ways, since women are not as plagued wth ego like us menfolk, they have a clearer thought process on somethings. I know that I have tried to give Karen some other knives/SAK's, but she is steadfast in her loyalty to her classics. She has a red one, a blue one, a yellow one, and as of last year when she became a brest cancer survivor, a pink one with the Brest cancer logo on it. It now lives on her keyring with the old Sear's 4-way screw driver.

In truth, that combo will do ya for 99% of hat you need, except for food use. For that, Karen has the number 8 Opinel in her purse.

 if I carried a purse I would have an opinel #8 slim in it for food prep.  Then I'd have no trouble carrying a small SAK for EDC.   I use mine for food a lot and therefore anything smaller than an 84mm isn't enough for me.

That's funny you mention that sir!
My wife has a Number 6.  I agree with you that I tried to give her other knives and she steadfastly refused.  I can't fault that at all.

No. 6 is my favorite size.  I have a No. 5, but I just can't bond with it like my 6. Yes sir, it's 91mm closed and carries like a dream.

I tried to love the smaller Opinels, but the round shape is just too much like having a dowel rod in the pocket. I had a number 5 and a number 6, but they got sent down the road. If I need a single blade cutter, I use the Victorinox garden/florist knife. It lays flatter in the pocket and the handle shape is soooo comfortable to use no matter how you grip it. And I don't have to fiddle with it to water proof the wood or fuss with the lock ring to get a better fit.

Over the past year now, I've been experimenting with he garden knife and I love the blade shape for a very wide range of cutting. And the chisel blade grind is so easy to sharpen.

I love my Opinels, but it's hard to beat that 58/74mm blade for sharpness.
