Ellie for day 7.  :)

Wow, that alox is in good shape!  :like:

Day 7 already. The trusty compact today!

One of the best two-layer minimalist currently being made.

I concur!  :salute:

Day 7:
Snap! This one is brand new, but is going to be a transformed into something more special soon, so I thought I'd carry it as is whilst I still can... Making plans for the weekend:

Into a Yeoman?

Exactly, also picked up an Explorer cheap (£20!) for the mag/Phillips layer, though someone more skilled than me will be doing the conversion.

Day 03:
(Attempting it ALL Single Layer!)

A BNIB (NOS) Wenger Standard Issue arrived today. What else to open it with than the recently arrived Bantam!

Definitely NOS!. The blade tang shows 2004 mfg. year. This will make a fine addition to my growing squad of soldiers. Other than the bail and the tang proof marks, there's very nearly zero difference between this Wenger and the 2005 Victorinox Soldier. Very slight difference in how the bent over flange in the awl is formed; requires close examination to see it.

Day 7...

Not much use today, but here are a few pics of my Centurian.

Tomorrow I'll carry the Tinker, I think!

7/30 I guess you don't really have to put that since the post is date stamped anyway right? Anyways, anyone else struggling a tad and daydreaming of their other multi tools, or has it been easy for y'all?

I miss my old Wave tremendously!  I was excited to carry a SAK, thinking it could replace the Wave and be much lighter, and it is. But I miss my one hand operated knife and a few other tools...

Day 7/30
Nuts,  made it to the Mother-in-law's.

Actually, she is awesome. I'm lucky.

My daughter was excited to see the palm trees here.  So,  I used the Exec to cut off a palm leaf for her to keep.

I found it really helpful with following multiple peeps over different time zones and all so probably just keep doing it.   :tu:   :tu:

Meet me also on youtube & instagram for mostly knives (and multitools) content

Day 8:

Mostly at home today, except evening at a friend's house-warming party, so a locking knife should be okay today, plus a corkscrew needed! Out comes my well-worn Alpineer (usually relegated to the kitchen drawer, so gets used alot for food prep):

I quite often just EDC a knife (e.g. Spyderco Pingu or Urban) and a 58mm Victorinox, so it's not been too difficult for me

The lack of one hand opening is what bugs me the most. I'm ok with basically just a blade and a few drivers/openers as tools, but deployment is so slow with a 45 year old sak.  Thankfully I'm not usually in a hurry.

Bantam again today.
The wife wanted to tidy up and tossed my bantam and keys from the dining table to the sofa as a single handful.
Result? Scratched alox

Lesson learned. I need to dig out the sewing machine and make a bunch of slipsheaths for my babies...

That's the problem with the coloured Alox, looks great, but doesn't wear as well as the plain silver ones. I've had some little leather slips made-up for my blue alox bantam and burgundy alox Rambler, which don't add much bulk and work well - think some of my posts for previous days carry in this thread show these.

I also have a Leatherman Crater C33TX on the way.  I already have the Crater C33X.  Nice and light knife and easy to open but missed the tools.  The TX adds the 2 screwdrivers plus the bottle opener/caribiner.

Once this Challenge is over, I will try carrying just that Crater and see if it fits the bill. It has a launcher on it to help one handed opening, my current Crater does not.

Carried the pioneer on day 6 and 7, but nothing came up except cutting a tag off my new hat. Hopefully day 8 is more exciting!

Quick question.  I've never owned an Alox knife before. Would something like the Pioneer X be heavier than a Climber Plus?

Day 04:
(Attempting it ALL single layer!)

Today the 74mm Ambassador comes through. Unlike the 2-layer 65mm Delemont Evo 81 and Executive 81, and the 58mm Classic (SD) that have the pen blade and fingernail file side by side, requiring two independent springs, the larger 74mm Ambassador has a single spring with the pen blade and fingernail file opposing each other on one side and the scissors on the other. The Ambassador's file has the pointed tip for cleaning under fingernails.

The exterior garage door opener with numeric combination keypad was not working this morning. It takes a small 12v battery that shouldn't need replacement as it hasn't been in the opener that long. The opener was on the house when I bought it 20 years ago and its plastic exterior shows a superficial surface chalking from solar UV and weather exposure, but there's no reason it shouldn't still work. With the opener exposed to the elements, even with a flip down cover, I've learned over the past two decades that at least 80% of the time, the copper battery contacts in the battery box have oxidized and need to be burnished as the oxidation does not conduct electricity very well.

First step is removing the small #1 Phillips screw that holds the cover on the battery box. The pointed fingernail file tip fits it perfectly, and the screw doesn't require high torque. For this task, the trick is not dropping the screw; finding it would be a challenge.

As I suspected, both contacts were oxidized, especially the right one. The file makes short work of the oxidation with very light pressure; just enough to abrade the surface lightly.

After burnishing the right side, I used the file to tweak the contact, spreading its fold slightly to increase contact pressure on the battery terminal. The shiny nickel or chrome battery terminals were completely clean. They didn't need any attention.

After reinstalling the battery and reassembling the battery box cover, it passed the "smoke test" with flying colors. The garage door opener is fully functional again and should be for at least a few months  ;)

Who says the pointy fingernail file is useless? BAH! Washed my hands afterward, including cleaning my fingernails with the Ambassador's file tip.
