Nice old Arkansas stone ! 

I used to have a Smith set with a soft and hard Arkansas stone.   :tu:

There's no telling how long I've had this. I only use it on kitchen knives now.

Dean I remember seeing those stone sets back in the day. Looks right handy.

Steve, Smith made good sharpening stone from what I've seen and heard. 

The stone above was bought back in 81 or 82 when lived in Stillwater, OK.. The brand name escapes me at the moment. It has sharpened a lot of knives over the years. It needs to be resurfaced as it has worn spots in it  So it doesn't get used much now-a-days.

Back in the day they were state of the art set ups.
I was in Independence, Mo. when I got mine, back in the early 80's.
I believe Smith's still makes them but with a plastic base.

Me to. I remember using Buck honing oil way back when. I use lighter fluid now days and have for many years when using an Arkansas stone..

Some good looking older sharpening stones, guys :like: :like: I have a few older stones as well but they never really get any use any more ::) I have never tried lighter fluid before but have aften wondered how it would do :think: :cheers:
