Some slipjoints have a square tang that  creates a positive stop when the blade is half way open.

or is it for safety when shutting the blade  :dunno:

No half stops on that one, but it does have a very positive backspring. You need to do something very stupid for that to close on you without instruction.

It's just a safety feature, so the blade has a second chance to stop before closing on your fingers, which may be a bonus for less experienced slippy users.

Today's knife looks cheap, and it was - well under a tenner, but the gamble paid off. Its surprisingly good quality, was sharp out of the box and holds the edge reasonably well, has excellent walk and talk, and the only thing I needed to do was file the kick on the pen blade down to reveal the nail nick on the clip blade.

It's got a nice swell to the handle too, and is very comfortable in hand. Would probably make a great whittling knife. Just a shame there hasn't been an international abolition on pakkawood, on the grounds of the ugliness being a crime against humanity  :D

Looks like a bargain AW!
Nice fix on the pen blade  :tu:

Cheers Tooly.  I was looking at at all the exotic ones like Burnt Salmon, Green Apple and Deep Canyon Red Jigged Bone etc... but in the end, I just went for the standard affair.
