More old school...

Frontier Texas Jack. Frontiers were produced by Camillus to compete in the traditional market against Schrade's Old Timers. They are really solid and compare favorably. Their carbon steel is very nice too...remember, it was Camillus that made the legendary Carbon V for Cold Steel.
-my memory sucks...sorry.

The J Russell Skinners are recent additions.

Good pic Robert!     :like:      That pic makes me long for the high country. I'm going to Colorado in two weeks to spend a week at Deep Lake in the White River National Forest.

Oh boy,  that is   just wow
You say that is based on a 1920s design...I sure missed that one! That looks like a very solid knife. Blade length? And the curve on the top, does it fit into the hand for a better grip?? With the nail nick so far back does it make it harder to open? Sorry for so many questions but that is really nice
Time to google and eBay

3.5 inch blade and the handle shape is definitely advantageous. The opening is smooth as silk and the nail nick location actually makes one hand opening a breeze. I have this one AND the green G10. The Green G10 has traveled quite a bit with me.

Oh wow, nice knife and great scenery!
I am just wondering about the steel used in the knife. It seems to be just a tad lower than AUS-8. What has been your experience with that steel as you have 2 of them?
The price is ok.

Rapidray-

8cr catches a lot of hell from steel snobs, but personally I vacillate when it comes to steel. Sometimes I want the latest supersteel, sometimes I really don't find it that important. It really depends on my mood I guess.

My favorite knife of all time is the Swiss Army Knife and its steel is far from any type of super steel. The 8cr13mov blades do a fine job in my opinion. If you are truly stuck on the latest supersteel, you probably won't like it, but I have found it works great for me.

The edge geometry is excellent on these if you like a keen slicey edge. Strop an Arkansas Hunter, and it can easily pass for a straight razor.

BTW - There is also a larger version that he used for his Texas Ranger commemorative line that I also bought.

:iagree: Well said Spudly! I can cast another vote for 8cr13mov. I have a Spyderco Tenacious in 8cr13mov and it's a great all around working steel!

Bought this barely used Camillus Barlow in saw cut Delrin scales for $19 at a knife show yesterday. Feels solidly built! From quick research, it appears this was made in 70s-80s. I'm one happy puppy!

I am not a fan of some of the new supersteels, one of the things I like about SAKs is it will go from dull to paper slicing sharp with a few strokes on my lansky turnbox. Where as say s110v may be super hard wearing but a ball ache to sharpen when it does go dull. I was eyeing up a new ukpk which can be bought in several steel options, I have ruled out s110v and will probably go with s30v as it’s a happy medium between hard wearing and ease of sharpening.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Thanks but thats ok. From the link I see it is a little bit larger than what I would carry. The Case Trapper, Buck 112 and the SAK in 111mm are about the largest I like to carry. Any bigger and I would rather be carrying a fixie. Thanks for all the information!  :tu:

S30V is usually the high end for me. Then it is an issue of money after that. If I had the money I might go higher.  :dunno:

Harvested some grapes with this one. No markings on it, other than "Made in USA" tang stamp.  I did have one true Euro-style "Pruning Knife", a 3" closed Maniago-made Antonini (which was really well built, and tough) but lost it a couple years ago.

Lots of history with this one, bought this one to repace a stolen one just prior to a vacation trip to SE Asia in 1971, so lots of miles and years on this one.  Kind of nice to know that all the pocket wear is from your own pockets.  Carbon steel not stainless so it has a nice patina (IMO).  And after all of these years the red bone has one tiny chip around one pin and this was definitely not a shelf queen.  I like the Case knives from that era.

S30v is a premium steel no doubt but now is being used a lot in knives that I would not call expensive.

I don’t know the prices of things in the states but this I consider to be pretty good value for what you are getting and that’s from a retailer I don’t use often as I can pretty much pick up most of the stuff they sell cheaper elsewhere.
