Couple favorites. Schrades Walden 856 and a Camillus 72

The 72 I see people say on these Camillus knives is a model or year?

Discolored?!

Guess you might as well send it to me for disposal LC.

No sense causing any more strive at your house.  Another package arriving could push your MRS off the edge. To keep you safe, I will keep under careful confitions😎
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

No, the stamp is a model number or pattern ID.

I luv listings on eBay when they indicate mfg date as the stamp.  Some interesting scores because…

It's the Model number.    :tu:   That 72 is a 2nd generation 72. With a short line tang stamp. Which indicates a 1946-1950 time frame of manufacture.
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

So when my Camillus shows up we’ll be able to date it?

Did you score a 717Y? I'd sure like to get one of every Camillus Yello-Jaket, but that'll take quite a bit of time and money.

As usual, great carries from awl! :tu:

Luvly wood grain on the Lamb Steve, yet that GEC Barlow has a very fine texture as well.  Both beauties, imagine it tough to select which one to work with

Today, a simple and tough work knife is my choice,
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]   just because it is Micarta Monday

PS: Update - my Spalted Beech Lamb was freed from Customs-Chicago late Friday evening, found it’s way to Indianapolis the next day, sat in limbo till Sunday afternoon, then caught a ride to Fort Wayne, tossed around a few stops here and as of 7AM is out for delivery :woohoo:

Exciting LC,   :mail:

We have ARRIVAL :woohoo:

We have mild disappointment  :dunno:

First knife order was 71Beech, to be Stabilized Spalted Beech(an exclusive to Moonraker Knives) made by Wrights of Sheffield.
Second knife 31BEX, made by same firm.

Both knives were received gritty and were a 10+ to open,  required a Rebar to open both blades and then oil an flush to remove grime from between the spring and liners, and the pivot points. I can deal with that including my ripped thumbnail🙄

The 31BEX is just as listed, BEX is the scale material, nice and grippy.  Nowhere’s on the tang is there mention of Wrights, only Made in Sheffield.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The same stamp on the Spalted Beech.
My confusion is with the scales, it appears that I have two different knives.
Tang stamp side

Back side

Thoughts?

Am I too picky?

I can clean the grime and polish the pivots for smoother action.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

LC, I'm sorry about your disappointment. First off the tang stamp. The made in Sheffield is a stamp that they use interchangeably with the older A Wright Stamp. I have a couple with those as well. I do like the older stamp better.  As for the gritty action that happens and some are a pretty stout pull but should not be a 10 by any means. Now for the Spalted Beech Lamb. The mismatched handles would bother me but more importantly they sent you a Candlestick pattern instead of the standard Lamb pattern. I don't think that is acceptable as that is not what is shown in their picture. Note the longer bolster.  I'm not sure your options but I would definitely let Moonraker know about it.

Thank you Steve and David.

I was concerned that the tang stamp was generic for any shop in Sheffield, not also a Wright tang stamp.

The opening action has smoothed out a bit on the 31BEX, didn’t to an 8 to 8.5😜

Yes, planning to reach out to Moonraker Knives, about the scales, as additional confusion was my packing list is detailed Spalted Beech, but the bag is labeled Birch! Yet, very good catch on the Bolster.

And I will clarify, my EXCITEMENT was very high, over the roof high.

The other flip is that I now have a Magician Lamb foot. Grainy one side, bland the other😜

The A Wright knife I had didn't have what I feel is the same fit and finish as some other brands I own.

A Wright has four tang stamps they use. I have an example of each.
