So sad... I remember watching this guy in Mythbusters and thinking "I want to be like him when I grow up".
Others also know him from Battlebots.
Others still have seen his special effects work in movies.

 :(
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Wow. The first time I saw him was on Junkyard Wars as part of the Industrial Light & Magic crew. He headed a team that built a giant R2D2 to compete against the Jim Henson Muppet crew and another special effects team I can no longer remember.

I am a bit gutted by this one.

Others know him as one of the few authorized controllers for R2-D2....

Others know him for touring the supply facilities for McDonalds and debunking rumors about their food....

I am absolutely shattered over the loss of Grant Imahara.  I've never met the man, but I still feel like I have lost a close and dear friend.

I can't say how much I had hoped this was the latest celebrity death hoax.

RIP Grant.  Say hi to Kenny Baker for me.

I logged in this morning to start this exact thread and I see there are two of them already.  If that doesn't show how important Grant was to the DIY community at large, the tool users of the world, I don't know what could.

I'm personally quite shaken at the loss.  While I would mourn the loss of any Mythbuster, I have to say that I think I identified with Grant more than any other- perhaps because of the obvious namesake, but I like to think that he always seemed to be the odd man out- Adam and Jamie were always a team, and Tory and Kari always seemed closer than either of them were to Grant.  I thought that dynamic even continued into the White Rabbit Project.

Whether imagined or not, ibwas always a huge fan of his, from robot fighting to Mythbusters to McDonalds to White Rabbit Project to Star Trek Renegades to Star Wars..... and I can't help but think that he was a nly beginning to make his mark on the world.

RIP Grant.  You will absolutely be missed.

I can absolutely say that Grant Imahara was... And IS, an inspiration to me, and doubtless to many others around the world. :salute:
By that metric, he had a good life, as cut short as it was.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

A punch to the stomach. Watched Mythbusters with my son. Happier times. He was a good man.

R.I.P. Grant, I used to love Mythbusters   :salute:

that is really horrid news
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob
