$100 for a $400 GPS?
on: September 19, 2008, 04:57:09 PM
Given the major help I got from my (wife's) GPS on the recent Maine trip I have decided it's the kind of thing everyone should have.  I've always managed with maps and asking directions before, but traveling was made so much easier with it.  Even so, one unit would be more than sufficient for us, as my wife rarely goes anywhere by herself.  Still, I got an email from TigerDirect.ca with another one of their "too good to pass up" deals, and I pulled the trigger on a Magellan Maestro 4040 for $100.  While researching this machine, it's listed most places at $400+, and beats the current one I have (which I actually bought for my wife, at the bargain price of $175!) with a bigger screen, voice command and built in Bluetooth connectivity for my phone.

Review of the 4040

I currently have the LG 830 model, and it really is good, but it's the wife's machine and I should really let her use it!  :D

Let me know if you want it and I'll look and see if they have any left.

I just looked and they no longer have them listed...  :(

If I'm not thrilled with it when it arrives, I'll put you first on the list to pass it off to!  :D

If you havent delt with Tiger direct before they are a good company. They are very nice and give you a great shipping cost. However remember that they also sell a ton of referbs. But they also give them the warrenty! so some bad but it is all good!!!

You know, I've bought A LOT of refurb items in the past, from all types of manufacturers, and I can't recall a single time that I've had a problem.  The warranty is usually shorter on refurb items, but I don't think I've ever had to use one.

One point of order- Tiger Direct does sell many refurbished items, but they are always marked as refurbished, or at least in my experience they have.  My Sansa e260 mp3 player was listed as refurbished, and also has "REFURB" marked on the back, and as Terry pointed out, there has never been a problem with it.

Yeah, I figured if I didn't grab it now, I'll wish I had.  Worst comes to worst, I can always make a few bucks by ebaying it afterwards!
