CRKT M16 fail
on: October 03, 2016, 08:00:20 PM
I recently got my self a CRKT M16, and thought Id try to use it in the wods.
I used it to cut down this sapling, and was very happy with its performance.

Then this happened:

From the look of it, the threads in the screw holes seems to have failed. I cant screw them back in, they just keep going round and round.

The question is, do you think I  pushed it too hard? Cutting down a sapling that thicknes is no light task.
Should I contact CRKT about it, or was it my own fault?

I wouldn't think that was too tough a task for it...the screws should have held, not stripped out like that, IMO.

+1

Send them the pics and explain how it happened. Maybe they'll repair it for you. I also think it should already have some issues, to break out like that and having the screws stripped like that...

I think that if you had overused the tool, the problem would have been at the pivot end. My guess from what I can see is some defect. I would report it to them and ask about repair/replacement options.

Update:

I just got a nice personal and quite funny mail from CRKT, suggesting that I might have used the wrong tool for the job.
They regardless offered to send me new screws for free to fix it. :)

Good to hear they're sorting you out, and that they have a sense of humour about it.

Nice! Well, it'd be nicer if they sent you a new knife, but still... Not so bad.

  :tu:

Huh... wasn't the problem in the backspacer/handle and not in the screws? If so, new screws won't help...

I had a closer look at the screws in better light, and the treads on them where ruined. I think new screw will fix it. I hope.
If not Ill have to contact them again.
