Best Knife for Bushcraft?
on: September 19, 2008, 09:56:53 PM
For my money, it would have to be The Grohmann (definetly a knife that punches above it's weight) The Fallkniven F1, the Rat 3 and the CS Master Hunter :)

They've all got full tangs, are big enough to be useful, but small enough that they can be used all day and for more intricate work :)

What would be your best bushcraft knife ???

I don't currently have one, but I'd really like to try out a Grohmann.  Especially considering that they lost the Canadian Military contract--I figure they need the business.

I have so many but the best one would be "The one that I have on me! :twak: "

I know that sounds silly/sarcastic but honestly it's a true statement.
We all like such different things and their are so many good blades out there (even Cold Steel!),
any good quality, something you can carry easy, good fitting blade will do,
even a Mora.

For me grohmann is no go because the handle is too thin, hands get sore after holding it for a minute. I sold mine because of this.

i keep wonderin that"scandi" word, like it combines all knives made in scandinavia?.im pretty used to big knives, even the smaller one s ive used and use are in size of 7-10" Leukus.but some Roselli´s hunting intended knives are pretty damn good stubby knives.like this:
r100

it has bit under 4 1/2" blade, and aint so expensive.

(Image removed from quote.)

oh yes,i got it,u might have shw that before too to me.
here its not so big deal at all,the grind, most knives are scandi-high flat and full flat, hollow and convex are not so liked in outdoor knives.scandi and flats are easy to make and maintain so theyre popular, and effective.

On this summer's camping trips my Cold Steel SRK in Carbon V steel was at my side.  I love it. I bought it off Ebay in like-new condition this past spring. It's a perfect size for my needs, which doesn't include a lot of true bushcraft, but it's done every job I've asked of it so far. Great Kraton handle that fits my meathooks well, easy to sharpen, 6" blade, and great steel. Ooorah!  :salute:

I agree.  :D    Out of the list I would go RC3, Master Hunter, or SRK. Any of those should fit the bill. Even a Ranger RD4 or RD6 or would be good.  :)

I've talked with Justin/Ranger Knives and I agree with everybody else that he seems like a helluva good guy. He makes quality knives. I was going to get an RD6 but I couldn't pass up on the SRK deal I got off Ebay.  I doubt you'll dislike anything Justin makes for you.

you can still get a Ranger from Justin now, but it will be a full custom (more expensive)
and it's also Blade Show West time (next weekend) so it will take longer.

and it will still be awhile for Ontario to start pumping them out (end of the year?)
They are suppose to be less expensive (?) from Ontario with Justin's assurance
of his full warranty.

I'll be going to Blade next week, and Justin will be there; any messages for him? :P
