Blue Collar Wave
on: October 09, 2016, 07:39:36 PM
Again, inspired by Breezy and Babola and Metro and so many other modders, I completed a Mini Version of my Blue Collar Surge.

Found Here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=63257.0

Many thanks to Tattoosteve for his modding work on the Vic Scissors and Inner wingman awl!

It will take a couple days to figure out screw tolerance and add my thumb wraps to the blades. Orange or Green?

The grip is MUCH better! Will also need to keep an eye on the rust.

I will update with photos as I take them.

MISTAKES: No mod is easy, I came across multiple problems. First, my Ferric Chloride (PCB Etchant) is about a year old. And it's the same stuff I used to wash my surge, so it's practically black. The first dip for 1 hour came out splotchy. After a wire brush and washing I gave it a second dip for 20 minutes than shook it in a can full of nuts and bolts. Once together, the Wingman awl needed a little grind, and I began to grind down the "scissor" stop or whatever it is against the scale inside the handle.

The attached hidden lanyard loop has been moved to the inner tools. Which allows me to put the pocket clip wherever I'd like.

The wrap, is it just whipped, or did you impregnate it with glue or something so it doesn't absorb goo and sweat?

Little bit of both lol

Whipped and then glued so it doesn't slide. Some glue ends up seeping into the wrap as well.

The Blue Collar wave has been awesome! Hard at work and still my only EDC since I put it together. The scissors mod should have been done years ago....

It's currently sitting on a to-do list and out of commission. Hardcore fish slime and salsmurfer have done their work, and the picture wore off so it was falling open in my oocket. I may try to get it cleaned up tomorrow.

I think the acid wash caused it to sprout legs and run off!

It's been 6 days with no avail. Same with my Fenix E03......

So....I got a call from a friend who fished with me while he was on vacation down here.

HE HAS MY WAVE! He already shipped it out and it should be here Monday. He said it was in his rain gear, he must have borrowed it or picked it up out of his golf cart

I know this might be a silly question but can you explain the actual process to get this finish? I own both a wave and surge and can't stop staring at the finish lmfao

Thanks in advance

NKlamerus, I am just now seeing this thread... and I am impressed. :salute:

I am in the same boat as Bubba -- curious as to how you got that finish on the handles.

and for the record, I am VERY glad to hear that your Wave made it safely home!

He acid washed it then rumbled it in gravel for 5 mins. Click the link in the first post in this thread, he did it to his Surge first and says what he did.

Almost 2 years?!? Seems incredible. I've got the skeleton back out, cleaned, and mostly rust free.

Trying to get a second pair of Vic scissors ready but cutting the hole in the hardened steel is driving me up a wall!
