Great stuff Poncho!  I love the pocket worn scales on that half congress!!

The pocket wear was done the old fashion way as well :tu: The reason I took to the Executive so well is that this was my EDC before the Executive and the blade size are very similar

Day 16 Well I really don't have a story about todays knife as I can't remember where this one came from   It has surely had an interesting life though as it has an apperance of use but no abuse  It is the only Barlow I have ::) I know I need more than one but at least I have this one :D It is an old Imperial US made Barlow that I do remember cleaning up but where it came from is a mystery to me and I usually know where I get everything ??? So without further a do my Barlow

Certainly lots of character but not really a lot of pitting like it might suggest  I suppose I could get a metal polish on get rid of some of it :D The bolster would look better if I cleaned on it but I might leave the blades alone

That is one of the strangest arrangements for a stockman I've seen.  I would have sworn it was a trapper until you opened it up.

Neat!  :tu:

Well, I have to say that this and the ceramic spay on your trapper have increased my respect for Rough Rider.

It's good to see that they're not just a "me too" company out copying others designs, but rather have a creative side.  :salute:

Yeah, I know, but I limit my traditional slipjoints to those made in the US, UK or Germany.  It's just a thing...

Day 18 Today I have a German made Kissing Crane 4 blade congress with yellow delrin  handles :D This knife was given to me when I was around 14 probably and it was given to me by my dad  It is a Robert Klaus Kissing Crane in carbon steel :tu: I carried this knife some over the years but it never was carried much at a time, I have always loved the pocketableness of this knife as it disappears in your pocket :like:

I have a couple of Klaus Cranes and have been impressed with the steel they use.  I'll bet this is no different.

The steel in this knife seems very good quality to me :tu: One of the main blades does hit as it closes on the coping blade but as long as you guide it down most of the way this is no problem :tu: I am thinking I have a newer SS Kissing Crane with stag handles but it may be Chinese made  I think I will have to search it out and see to make sure :D Just looked and it has German quality on the box but nowhere on the knife says made in Germany so it may not be German  The way it feels it is probably a very good Chinese made one with stag handles ;)

The one I am gonna carry tomorrow is another fine example of the German made ones though  Even if it is a bit rougher than this one I carried today  :D

I researched this recently, and it seems to be accepted by the collector community that if the tang stamp says "Since 1834" it is a Chinese made Crane.  Most of the later Cranes before the move to China are stamped as such:

 ROBT KLAAS
    SOLINGEN

Through the 80s and 90s, the model numbers are in roman numerals showing the pattern and date code, but sometime in the late 90's/early 2000's they changed to show a four-digit Arabic pattern number.  These are generalizations though--I'm sure there were other minor changes through this transitional period.

Having one of these type knives in pocket back in the days makes a lot of sense now.  The term "disappears" also makes sense as well.  I'm not sure what the old timers grabbed off their night stands to start their day but it sure makes sense that a small knife was one.

Day 19 Well I have here another Kissing Crane but this one has seen better days  Was a knife my father gave me after using it for a while breaking one of the blades off and never probably doing anything TLCwise except keeping it sharp :D It is a 3 (suppose to be 4  ) blade congress in carbon steel and as you can see this Crane was made in Germany  I have really left this knife as is so far and kept it pretty much as I received it and Imay leave it this way  It is still a very nice usable knife with very good steel in it so who knows I may shine it a bit and carry it  :D
