Although I love pioneers and soldiers, the compact wins for as an edc for the scissors - though I’m more tempted these days by 3 layers, my InvesTigator, my Yeoman mod or a trusty Pioneer X...... but the compact (called the golfer when I got mine) was an edc of mine for years......

Sportsman for me all day long. I have modded lots of two layers trying to make the ultimate edc but I still like this one the best!  :tu:

Tinker, 91mm. Have carried same one for about 30 years. Best EDC ever made. Have about 60 other SAKs, none as good a EDC as the Tinker.

Compact if it's my only one.

Tinker Small or Cadet if I can have my Classic SD Alox tucked away in a wallet or 5th pocket for the scissors and nail file.

A Cadet X would probably rival the Compact if Victorinox made it.

For me it would be the Tinker (small) but if they made a Cadet X....
They don't like it up 'em!

From the list, it is definitely the Compact, because I can’t do without the scissors on my carry SAK.  I have a few Compacts that I rotate between.

I would really like to see Vic bring back the 84mm with scissors, the 84mm Voyageur is on my wish list.

My first SAK was a Spartan, and I carried it exclusively for many years, so I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for them.

If we're talking about which one I would prefer to carry today, I find I really miss the scissors if I don't have them, so I voted Compact.  Really, though, I consider a three-layer (Climber or Pioneer X) to be about my minimum for EDC.

That is sweet.

I would love to find a phillips with file.  Although, I would be wanting to find a way to put it as an inline phillips with a yeoman.

I voted for the Compact, as it was the knife I carried daily for many years, but truth be told I might be just a bit happier if I could be allowed a Pioneer and a Classic.

Polls like these don't work for me.
I rotate between different models.
The most popular 2 layer ones are...

- Executive
- Cadet
- Pioneer / Soldier
- Spartan

...and I'm missing my Compact that became a Yeoman  :dunno:

A tinker with an executive is increasingly my non troubleshooter day carry. They are so thin and light together I could paint them flesh tone, carry them On a dog tag Shaneat a nudist colony, and no one would notice.. 😉

I have/had (only one I don't have is a Tinker Small, but only because I gave it away as a gift) every single one of them on the list, and while it was close for Pioneer, Electrician, and Tourist, I had to go with Compact. Has most of the stuff one looks for an in SAK with the weight of a Spartan.

I can't vote, sorry. Not enough options. My choices:

- 97 Soldier for work, most home use, and occasional urban carry. Fantastic sturdiness and awl. One of my favourite SAKs.  :salute:
- Tourist or Spartan (either plain edge or serrated) for most urban carry. The small blade and corkscrew give them bonus points. Two of my favourite SAKs.  :tu:
- serrated Recruit for speSmurfpillst cutting duties at work. Another of my favourite SAKs.  8)

Voted Pioneer because there's no space for the SI. My other fave 2 layer is the fabled BuSchröder of which I own one of the two made  ;)

Voted Sportsman because for me it's a perfect real world carry. Scissors are a nice to have if we're being serious and 84mm is a very, very, nice pocket carry compared to anything 7mm bigger

That is sweet. I have a blade, saw and some nice dark green alox scales from a harvester so next time I have a spare awl that is going to be a project - was literally just toying with ideas for what to try out a bail on too!

I voted Tinker, but would have gone with Compact if it had a Philips screwdriver rather than the worthless corkscrew.

It's funny, for many years a 2 layer SAK has been the norm and standard with the Soldier/Pioneer/Spartan and other Scout style knives.  It's only in more recent times have we 'upsized' to 3 layers or more being the minimum for EDC.  I'm typically with my Climber when in town and switching for a Huntsman, Camper or Trekker when outdoors.

I guess the change in attitude has been the SAK has for many years been viewed as a secondary tool to supplement and augment larger main tools like a fixed blade knife or a hatchet.  Today, the SAK is the only tool we typically carry in our pockets and thus the desire/need for more options.

I am with Nate that I typically carry a Climber as my minimum for my day to day SAK but I like the Tinker for 2 layers as I am not willing to give up the opener layer even for the scissors.  I also like the small blade so the Compact just doesn't get it done for me.  It is interesting to see how popular the Compact is though, it is a very versatile SAK.
