To me, the Farmer is equivalent in thickness to a Tinker.

Fan of the Leatherman mini-bit driver, dedicated slotted drivers, and the Victorinox backspring philips. But not combo blades.

I was wandering how thick the Farmer and Pioneers were. I have a Tinker and Super Tinker, so I was wanting to see how they compared.

it looks like a Farmer (thanks to the thinner alox sides) is the same thickness as a Tinker?

Yep more or less :), + plus don't forget the tool's on the Farmer are heavier duty than those found on the 91mm Celidor range :)

Iv'e been looking at the Farmer and Pioneer. The Farmer as a gift, and the Pioneer for myself.

I'm wondering how much thinner the Pioneer is compared to a Tinker. Too small to use without your hands slipping all over the place? If so, I could also get a Farmer for myself, thought the saw would be something I'd rarely use. I have a swisstool which pretty much does everything, but I still have to drop a SAK in my pocket. Sometimes when you need a bottle opener, knife, or awl, a SAK is easier to whip out. Also, and extra knife is never a bad thing.

Well I personnely find the Pioneer/Soldier's to be just that little bit to thin, and I'd only consider my hands to be medium sized, so if you've got smaller/medium hand's, go for the Pioneer, if there a bit bigger, or you plan to use the Sak for extended period's go for the Farmer :)

The Pioneer is a bit thin for my hands.   The Farmer is a better fit.
Oddly enough, the Farmer is usually cheaper these days, even
if you get the gorgeous red or blue alox scales.   There are also
some sweet deals that include Vic flashlights for almost the same
price.

I make the Tinker about 1/2" thick and the Pioneer about 7/16" so not much in it (1/16th if my maths holds up  ::)).  I've got medium sized hands and haven't found the Pioneer to thin.  But if you haven't got a SAK with a saw then get the Farmer.  :D

Try not to be the person who blunders around and causes everyone else to get out the way.  Everyone else thinks you're a utter...

I find the Soldier and Pioneer just a slight bit thin, but still servicable. The Farmer and Tinker are about the same size and feel much meatier in the hand. The Super Tinker is a bit thicker and fine in the hand but I sitll prefer my regular Tinker and Farmer.

Got those frog legs.
