I took a punt

Any idea what I just bought?
I only have a suspicion it is a SAK.
It will be a while before I get it in my grubby hands though.

Nice catch  :tu: I suspect I might be German rather than Swiss, but nice catch all the same.

I have one of those Solingen lockback folders. Tough knife, it's taken years of "toolbox beater blade" duty and is still ready for more.

I'd guess the other is a Solingen built SAK-a-like.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, some of the German knives are really nice.

I new about the Mercator, part of the reason I bought these two. I was given one as a kid, but of course had no idea what it was and it disappeared at some stage. So to have a childhood reminder is kind of nice.
The other I have a hope it is still swiss. I have a friend collecting them sometime during the week. I have found a couple of pictures of a wenger that looks very close, but the scale material looks very different.

Not yet, The knives are in New Zealand, I am in Australia, a friend should have them in the next day or so, then I get a better idea.

Don't be disappointed if the multipurpose knife is not Swiss. I looks like you've got yourself a very nice knife there, irrespective of maker

I'll give it a go ;-)
Carbon-steel (good sign!)
No too obvious signs of use or abuse
Quality-make of scales, rivets, bail.

Hope the blade turns out well!

I agree to 50ft, might be a German/Solingen knife, around 1900-1930s.
But possibly, if less probably, also a Wenger ;-)

I have a feeling that is a little optimistic, but if someone feels the urge to offer me that for mine I don't think I would turn it down.

So mystery solved, a good friend picked my recent score up for me.

Along with a couple of more recent Victorinox and Wenger knives. Still to get a picture of those.
