Let's spice up the joint a bit......
on: October 16, 2016, 12:36:57 PM
I'm waiting for 400 grit belts to do some finish work on the Kukris, but handle shaping is done and I'll make some Kydex blade protectors next week.

I dare say my heat treat is getting better each time, this round I used 10W40 mixed with thinners 50/50 and Canola oil, and since I have a little hand-me-down bachelor 2-plat oven the blades went in for temper straight after heat treat.
No Rockwell tester, so I just beat the smurf out of them a bit and gauge the results......these are monsters.

Rear part of the blade is high saber grind, going to full flat on the belly.  Spine is rounded as it is on the leaf spring it was made from.

Home baked micarta for the handles.

Birthday present for my cousin, he provided the file, fine old colonial German steel.  Looks a bit like a bread knife, maybe a touch too long, bit the file tapers to the front, the convex edge just wants to cut.

Blue, white & black micarta pinned with brass tubes

And then I made this score last week from a gun shop....... :woohoo:

I was a bit overwhelmed, but I can go back for more gun barrels any time

Only 4 big flat files......this one will become my bowie.....  8)
