Rust on my spirit!  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

Took it out of drawer today and saw this, it was sitting there for last few months and I don't remember ever getting it wet! The leatherman wave sitting next to it was rust free.  :ahhh

I just spent half an hour to oil up every nook and cranny on everything I have in the drawer, now if they rust I'd be really pissed.

This may sound like more of a cop out than anything else, but are you sure that's rust from the Spirit?  Usually when I find rust in the teeth it's some residue left over from something rusty I'd grabbed with it.

I agree with Def on this one. Maybe it's tiny metal fragments from something you grabbed with the pliers. I have had this happen with some files. It looks like the files are rusted but after closer inspection it was metal shavings on the file that rusted.

Dispite all those lectures, all them training films, it went out and got rust.

How indiscreet >:D

Some run from breaks of ice, and answer none:
And some condemned for a fault alone." -William Shakespeare, King Lear (1608), Act IV, scene 6, line 169

Given the pattern of rust, I'd have to agree with the theory of it's metal from something else that rusted. It's only caught in the little jaw grooves!

I tried to wipe it off with paper and cotton swab but nothing came off, doesn't seem to be from something else.

IS IT COMING THIS WAY? :ahhh :ahhh

OHHH NOOOOOOOOO :ahhh

Doesn't rust spread  Perhaps it has gripped something rusty, but after a while doesn't rust start spreading on it's own :-\ So the tiniest spec could have been left on the tool and after a while the rust just spread

That's unfortunate :-\, I thought Def was right with his theory, but if you like say it's not metal from another source, then that is indeed unusual

Why WD-40?  Wouldn't something like Tri-Flow be a better choice?

I found similar rust in the same spot on a lightly used Wave I bought a few weeks ago. There was no other rust. Like Def, I assumed that the rust had been initiated by grabbing rusty objects and not cleaning the rust off afterward.

I could have been wrong about the cause, but it was the placement of the rust and not the brand that informed my guess. I initially assumed the same cause here, for the same reason.

I have noticed that the inside teeth of plier jaws are very susceptible to rust in general. It is really worth examining that area of your MT regularly...

I think that aside from a few extremely neglected specimines, I don't think we've seen harmfully rusted tools by either brand. :)

According to 2 people it seems......

Look at it another way. Vic sell a tiny fraction of the multi-tools that LM do. Not susrpring really, as LM invented the idea and therefore will be regarded as the "genuine" plier based multi. However, if you didn't see a correspondingly low number of issues with Vics, whether it be rust or general quality issues, it would probably be time to give up, no?

I used to come here a lot.
