Maintenance?
on: October 27, 2016, 11:41:46 PM
I got a little classic sd and I'm now upgrading to a Super Tinker... I need some tips on how to care for them properly... never did anything, not even sharpened my classic but I know it isn't healthy to do that lol
actually it has some green stuff inside it, where the tools are kept, rust maybe?
any tips on sharpening, cleaning, oiling and stuff?

thanks!

Warm soapy water, use old toothbrush or toothpicks in blade wells to loosen grime/lint/etc......fully dry ( or compressed air Blow Out) , Oil the joints/pivot points , moved blades open/closed several times...........USE THE SNOT OUT OF IT!  :tu: :D

I use hand diswashing detergent. If it's green, it's not rust. It's either copper oxide from the brass, or it's that abundant earth element Crudmium. It should scrub out without too much trouble.

Pipe cleaners and a fine-blade screwdriver are also helpful.

After cleaning, lubricate with mineral oil. Mineral oil is cheap, food-safe, and works well.
