G'Day,

Day 21

Three weeks already, wow time flies and xmas is coming too!!!

Today was a busy day for the Signal. It started off with mowing the lawn before it got to hot here. It got to 37 degrees on our patio this afternoon. I also had to put a belt rack up, and the Phillips bit got to do some work. Awl was well making holes in the soft walls and adding the rack. Some light snacks - apple and then on to dinner. We made lamb kebabs - very nice indeed.

I'm still very happy with the Signal. I keep looking for excuses to use it and usually find one here and there. Especially on my days off.

One more week to go.

Enjoy the evening

Pete

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about being glad mowing season is over.  However, I'm not a fan of the coming season as snow is a PITA when one has to go to work and travel any considerable distance.  I would love to just stay home all winter, or at least not have to worry about how the driveway's getting plowed and having to be somewhere every day.

You need to move to Tennessee then  :D We get snow but nothing major ;) When it snows a lot here (by our standards) things just sort of shut down for a couple days and then when it melts then we get going again :like: We do have snow here where I live more than where I work (couple hours drive from home) so as long as they don't have snow I still have to get out and go though :ahhh :D

Yeah, it's funny how the south shuts down when there's a little snow
Pretty much everything goes on as usual here, other than maybe school being canceled.  Of course Mainers are used to lots of snow, but that doesn't mean I have to like it ;)

Snow?

I have to travel at least 5 hrs in winter to get to see some. We are lucky here in Sydney, winter rarely gets below 10 degrees C in the City and 0 at our place. The coldest I have seen in the 10 years we have been here is -2 degrees C in Sydney. I don't miss the cold at all - I'm a summer baby!!! That also means I can ride the motorbike all year long. Thank goodness for heated grips.

With the great weather we are having I cook outside all the time. As for mowing, I don't have to much grass left. Put a pool in last winter and that cut my backyard in half.

Oh, the kebabs were very tender.  ;)

G'Day

Day 22

Last day off at home before going back to work. Today was another scorcher in Sydney with temp well above 35 degree C by lunch time. We got some reprieve about an hour ago with a decent storm and a drop of 14 degrees. It is much better outside now, except for the wind and rain.

I had only one task for the Signal today. I had to tighten a screw on my shaving mirror, which I think should probably get a good dollop of LockTite, it always works itself loose. I had to use the bit in a 90 degree angle as a full extended tool will not fit in. I usually use a Pulse that is next to my bed, and that one too needs to be opened only 1/2 way. It also went for a little ride on the bike again. I am looking for some brackets to mount additional fog lights on the bike and need a specific size u-bracket. That search was not successful, eventually the heat won and I came home.

The rest of the pictures are just posing pics. I got out my Old Casio G-Shock Wademan. It was part of the original Master Of G Series released in 1999. The one I have is a limited edition ARTI (American Rescue Team International) and comes with a Kevlar strap. I was also the first G-Shock that had a Compass fitted. It only gets limited wrist time, it is big, but surprisingly light. The other watch is a ProTrek PRG-50. The first Solar ProTreks. This one has had a new battery and seal fitted earlier this year. It is one of my favourite watches and gets lots of wrist time.

Tomorrow back at work...

Cheers,

Pete

G'Day,

Day 24

I spent the day in the train sheds shunting. We had a fairly quiet day with just a few shunts, divisions and an amalgamation. I moved a train a few time in and out of the wheel lathe (where they check the bogies and the wheels) which was quite challenging at times. There are spots on the wheels and they have to line up to certain markers on the lathe. Getting 160T to stop on an inch can be tough. A few choice words by the shunter and the one fitter and we got it all sorted.

The Signal was relegated to lunch duties only. I did get to show and tell with a good mate that I am trying to convince that he needs a Signal.  :D

The pictures today are taken with two polished tools I have: a Sideclip that started its life as a Matt version and an OG Wave. Tomorrow should be some real work in the garden and the garage. Enjoy the pics.

Cheers,

Pete

G'Day,

Thanks for the comments and the likes guys.

Day 25

Today was a busy day for the Signal. We spent the morning in the garden replanting some fruit trees and generally tidying up after the pool was put in a few months ago. The garden and lawn is slowly recovering now that the weather is getting warmer. First up was cutting duties and this time I appreciated having a serrated blade. I opened a couple of potting soil bags and cut some old cable ties. I have been keeping the blade pretty sharp so cutting duties are quick and easy.
Next up was sawing an old rosebush up. The saw works very well, even for a left paw!!!  ;) I had to wash it with soap to get the wet residue off, I don't like leaving any tools on the Multi's dirty, especially plant material. The bits will start corroding.

I also finished one of the the towel racks I started a week ago. The awl came in handy to remove the timber from the drill bit. I needed a 20mm hole to attach the rail spikes too. I was originally going to paint them, but the rust converter did it's magic so well that I am going to leave them and see how they weather. I did the small one first just to see how it will look like mounted on the fence. I think it came out pretty good. I have painted 5 more spikes with the rust converter and will put them up during the week. The timber I used is the same as the fence and I hope it will weather at a similar rate. An 8mm socket later plus the Signal hex adaptor and the rack is on the fence.

I am really enjoying the Signal. I was going to replace the saw with a file, but are having second thoughts now. The saw has come in handy a few times now. The hex bit/hole is a very clever and handy tool on the Signal. It has proved itself as a good daily EDC for me so far. If I compare it to the MUT or Charge that I often carry I would have had to do an extra trip or two to the garage to get the correct tools out. And all this fits snugly in my pocket with the handy clip.  ;)

I will split the pics over two posts.

Cheers,

Pete

G'Day,

Day 26

I was back at work today, so lunch duties for the Signal. I did get to have a look at the spikes that have been painted with the Rust Converter. They look good and I will be able to finish the towel racks during the week. Today's pics are posing only.

Cheers,

Pete

G'Day,

Day 27

Few days left, and not to many tasks. I had a quiet day at work with the usual lunch duties for the Signal. I also added the pannier racks back on the bike for an upcoming trip. I tried a small rare earth magnet but that did not keep the hex bit in the hole. I will have to keep hunting.

Enjoy the evening,

Pete

Pete,

As to how to hold your bit holder in the Signal...what about drilling n tapping a hole underneath, then making a little wing-screw type of set screw to put in there to tighten when using the bit holder?

Mate, I'm not sure I follow you here?

Would you mind adding a pic possibly with a rough indication of what and where?  ;)

Ok, in this picture, on the left side, you have the hex hole for your bit holder...

Coming from the left, the bottom of the "hammer", could you drill and tap a hole for a set screw that when tightened, held the bit holder in place?

Then you could add a "wing" (like a wing nut...)to that set screw so you could tighten by hand.

G'Day,

Day 19

We had a fantastic day today.

The much awaited Annual Toy and Blanket run and the first run for our son on the motorcycle. I don't think he slept much either last night... In total we did 262km for the day. We met all the other riders about an hour away from Sydney up the Central Coast at a place called The Entrance. It is famous for Pelicans and pelican feeding. There were around 50 bikes in total - mostly Harley Davidsons. Three of us were on BMW's and there was one Bimota. Some of the bikes were decorated with XMas stuff and soft toys tied to most of them. I packed out gifts in the soft panniers. The weather could not have been any better too. We had a shortish ride to the local Salvation Army where we handed all our stuff over knowing that in a months time there will be a few more happy people sharing the festive spirit with us. It was also encouraging to see quite a few young faces and they will hopefully follow in their parents footsteps and carry on this tradition. I have been attending Toy Runs since I bought my first bike years ago in South Africa. It is good to know that there is still some humanity left in the world when I see the number of people that were there today. It certainly helps me appreciate what we have and also show the kids that life can be tough and unforgiving sometimes, BUT that there are others that will help. All in All we left feeling on a hight and with a full tummy thanks to a sausage sizzle (local Ozzie sausage in a slice of bread) they put on for us.

So today's pictures are more about the run that the Signal. It did come out this afternoon when I got to prepare our dinner. Three good size Cattleman's beef steaks for the four of us. They were no match for the sharp blade!!!

Enjoy the pics

Cheers,

Pete

Right, I got you now. The only problem I can see is working around the little bit of wire that keeps the tool in a closed position. It is not visible on the pic, bit slides down the groove under the hammer. I will have a look at the diameter and see what small size it will be.

Cheers,

Pete
