I thoroughly enjoy this mans videos.  I have always enjoyed listening to him and the quality of his content.

He put out a video discussing how he makes his videos maybe it can help give you some ideas?

Nice videos, it's nice to have the information condensed in this way.

The gears are not the feature that actually gives the compound force on any model though, I presume they are there to guide everything where it should go but there sure isn't much force on them (seeing how they are made of fairly thin sheet with rounded edges).
That is correct, most of the load is applied at the plier's pivots, and the compound leverage stems from those pivots being below the point where the handles meet.

I allways fast-forward to the tool being shown in other videos.

So I like the straight to business, cut the crap take.

Wait a minute ...

Are you saying you don't like to watch someone holding a boxed tool for 10 minutes before they unpack it ?

You're a weirdo mate ...  :pok:

On topic:  I like the videos, short and simple  :tu:.

I only like it when I can hold a box MYSELF.

Watching someone else do it just drives me crazy.

It's like watching someone unpack a gift by cutting every single piece of tape first, while talking about the weather.

Little bit behind on the "on video per day" idea I had above, but here is today's:

I guess technically this is only the third of the month, and I've already got four up, so maybe I'm actually still ahead a little bit!  :P

I went back to adding subtitles, even though it takes a lot of time to do.  Hopefully you all consider it worthwhile.  Also, this one seems to have gotten cut off a bit at the end.  Sorry about that.

I like this guys videos :D

I'm confused....aside from the uncomfortable G10 slabs....I don't think he hated the knife that much?....

I will say however, I was miffed at his disparaging of "plastic clips"

Aside from my general outrage at the use of the word "plastic".....

The design and locking mechanism on the belt clip for his sheath is damn near identical to that use by (probably a bunch of companies), but the one that sprang to mind was -  http://www.blade-tech.com/.

With all the mount holes when he shows the sheath, I would imagine the carry height can be adjusted....

There's nothing wrong with polymer or composite products - We invented them for a reason.

I'm all for taking the piss out of survival knives, but make sure you attack the right things :P

Okay I'm done.

Oh, I should probably comment on Grant's one as well :P --

It "has a wire stripping tool" might be more accurate than "it functions as a wire stripped"

I've never had much success anyway :D

I saw the last MTO video. The new redneck style intro is better but it can still be improved or removed.

All I can say about this thread...is...  :2tu:!

Short to the point video reviews can only help MT.O and the industry at large. I find most online reviews to be overly long...and I tend to switch off after 5 minutes viewing them.

There was something about it that made me think of that. Maybe it was the showing of the knife whilst driving, maybe it was the introduction.
The first thing that came to my mind was of someone in the middle of nowhere who had just got a new knife, was very excited about it and had to show it immediately.
Maybe if the whole review was done in the car, or somewhere outside it would have a better flow, more connection with the 1st shot.
You are the pro :)

I know you have had that SAK for years.

Also, there are not many forums where you can describe the owner as unattractive and redneckish without getting banned :) :)

Very few forums value honesty then I guess.... :P

I was actually driving out into a wooded area of a local park to film some other intros, which you will see shortly.  I wanted to film them outside, in the woods as much as possible to show that I am not one of those reviewers that sits at a desk and tells you how wonderful they are and how well they believe a product will be based on their fondling of it in the living room.

I am not a hardcore bushcrafter, but I do spend a lot of time in the woods.  I am not a tradesman, but I do a lot of work around a house.  I am not a mechanic, but I tinker with things.  I wanted the review portion to focus on the tool itself, so that's why I use the top of a desk as a background, but I also want people to realise that I actually use them before talking about them.

Overall these videos are meant for a less knowledgeable audience than the folks here.  There is very little that I could say in less than a minute that would be news to anyone here.  But, as you have all pointed out, no one wants to watch a 15 minute long video which mostly revolves around some guy trying to get the tool out of the box, and who has never actually used it for anything.

Can't you hire those two anchorwomen boss? It would make your videoclips more professional and you could expect more likes (by a factor of 100x according to a realistic estimation).

I had to abort that clip before I stuck a fork in my temple. Maybe it would have been more tolerable with the sound off

Thanks for todays video!
I learnt something new from that video-the existence of the Flux.

Looks cool, but a bit bulky?  I'd like a version with smaller/slimmer components while keeping the rail system. Maybe no lights, a keychain aaa is superior anyway.  Modders, start your engines!   :like: ;)

I'm glad you liked it.  I am sure I will cover a few tools eventually that you (and others) haven't heard of.  I have more than a few hidden gems in my collection, but the Flux holds a special place for me.  It was released in 2010, but I first saw it in 2009 when I was sitting down and talking to CRKT designer Tom Stokes.  He was showing me this new tool design that I wasn't allowed to talk about but I always love a sneak peak.

He was showing me the various components and I was pretty impressed by it, when he showed me the switchblade style USB drive holder and explained that it was his favourite component but he didn't like the limitations of putting in a custom flash drive, knowing how size limits change in the blink of an eye.  He was strongly considering dropping it, until I happened.   >:D

I pulled out my keys and the Micro SD card reader I carried on it.

He loved the idea so much that he thanked me by giving me a Fulcrum Flame which wasn't released yet.  One year later when the Flex was released I was amused to see that the card reader on the Flux wasn't a custom designed one, but the exact one I had shown Tom!  The Fulcrum Flame and the Flux will always have a special place in my collection for this.

There's actually another Multitool.org angle to this story- that card reader was actually one I had bought in Maine, during the Multitool.org Maine Meetup in 2008.  I had brought my camera, but forgotten the memory card for it and had to stop into Radio Shack.  I had bought the only SD card they had, an 8gb one since I had forgotten that my camera wouldn't read anything over 2gb.

I ended up going back in and buying a 2gb Micro SD card with an adaptor and the card reader.

Who would have thought that would have ended up influencing the development of the Flux?  :D
