Council Tool?
on: November 04, 2016, 01:40:49 PM
I'm still in the market for one good axe after my failed attempt to buy the Husqvarna, and I see a supplier for the outdoor shop I frequent now stock Council Tools.

I haven't done much "research" on the brand, but a few things bother me.....

The specs seem good and they claim to be an old established company, only problem is I've never heard of them before?  Sure enough I'm not that much of an axe freak, but considering videos and articles I've been through I find that strange.

They have a line(s) that seems to be very reasonably priced, then there are other items that seems ridiculously expensive....like the Apocalaxe

Opinions on this brand?

I ordered this one:
http://counciltool.com/shop/assorted-small-axes/2-25-boys-axe-28-curved-wooden-handle/

It's not much more expensive than the local hardware store axes, and probably more axe than I will ever need

GG I'm sure you'll get many years of good service from that axe. This is a pic of my Council Tool Hunters Axe when it was new in 2012. Another about a year later. It has served me well.     :)

I'll need to paint a picture with words because my bogus smurfing 3rd world semi-government useless beyond belief ISP can't find their smurf-holes with a hand full of smurf-paper.  My ADSL's been down the whole week, the 4th week in 2016......this has put many miles on my soul  :twak:
I'm actually lucky I can (still) access MTO from work, but the pic hosting (and 99% of knife & gun) sites are blocked......
  over

On to the axe.
Not sure if that's what I asked for, but I got the 24" model.
There's a insubstantial blade protector that failed completely during transport, fortunately there wasn't much of an edge to mess up anyway.

I was stunned, it's smaller than I anticipated, wonderful weildy little thing that chops and feels like it want's to be thrown!

Construction looks and feels nice and solid, knowing the materials used I'm well pleased and for the price not bothered by the slight imperfections.

It's a winner, I'll sharpen it and play around some more, pics will follow.......someday.

ADSL is back online, was running at half speed and 25% of the advertised throughput, at least the connection is back to full speed and actual bandwidth 50% of advertised......i.e. a good day

Now I only need to take some pics, leave starts today so hang tough  :salute:

I'm going to make a loooooong story short, finally got a chainsaw and made my 4th attempt to harvest this stump........man handled into my poor Gypsy by myself......still a little broken.

The axe got a bit of a workout with the de-barking, and I'm very happy.  Powerful, but small enough to handle easily.

I did a few other tests, and I'm still 100% with Nutnfancy that Big Knives Dont Suck  , but in this case the axe worked better

Council Tool has just celebrated it's 130 year anniversary... They are based in Lake Waccamaw NC and have been family owned and managed since John Pickett Council started making turpentine axes for the locals.

They are expanding their premium axe lines which include the Velvicut Line ( 4 lbs. Dayton felling axe, 2.25 Bad Axe Boys axe, 2 lbs. Hudson Bay in two handle lengths and are adding a 2 lbs. double-bit Saddle axe), and the Wood-Craft line which has recently been introduced starting with the 2 lbs Pack Axe.

Council has many standard/stock axes that are good "chop for the buck"..

I'd encourage to check them out at counciltool.com

Peace, Rooster
