So do you think you can build me my dream SAK? And what / how much would you ask in return?

It's a tricky one because of the positions of the nail nicks.  In your pic, the nail nick for the small pen blade will be blocked by the main blade.  I can build it, particularly if you want a riveted silver alox knife.  I don't think I've got the parts to build a knife with screw pivots, and I wouldn't be happy riveting coloured alox.

Ah, the nail nicks, hadn't thought about those. Back to the drawing board then. And I would have it in OC red, so I'll have to pass on this one. Thanks for replying!

My explorer variant with a nail file in place of the small blade and titanium scales, liners, and mag glass is about as perfect as a SAK can get.

I had searched for this thread the other night and after rereading this, I decided to :bump: it back to the front page to see if anyone has changed what they consider the perfect SAK or to tell what their idea of one is

I have my Master Ranger in my backpack that goes daily with me to work but I carry my Executive in my pocket :salute: I need to get the MR out and give it some pocket time :ahhh Because it is still a great SAK :dd: :like:

I've never owned one of the Evolution S557s.  But looking at pictures of it, I would like to start with that, then ditch the pliers, scissors, and that weird wrench thing.  In their places I would put a wood saw, metal file, and maybe some kind of hook tool.  (respectively)

I'm thinking about making a "Sawyer Special" for use around the sawmill.

It would include:

Woodsaw (duh?)
Metal file / saw
Phillips, either inline or backside
Pliers
Two blades
Two openers (Bottle opener doubles as a wing nut wrench, did you know that? Sometimes my sawmill wingnuts rust solid and need a little boost.)
Backside reamer (of course).
Keyring
Backside wood chisel.
Backside mini blade driver, especially if making the scissors mod I mention below...

And a special tool I will call a "board thickness gauge." It would be a ruler with a tang on the end so you can quickly see how thick a board is. (This is important when calibrating your sawmill, checking its accuracy, or sorting piles of different-thickness lumber). I might mount this directly on a custom-made scale.

If this were a 91mm knife, I might consider eliminating the can opener and replacing it (somehow) with a mini scissors from a 58mm knife, across from the bottle opener. They're all that's needed to cut plastic binder strap off crisp and clean.
This life is merely a staging ground for eternity. Are you preparing for the rest of forever?
