A user Buck
on: July 31, 2022, 10:45:21 PM
Yesterday at the flea market I was rummaging through a jewelry box and found a nasty looking Buck 503, made in the year 2000. I've never had one of the 500 series Bucks before. In fact, I haven't owned but a couple of Buck knives period. It had a couple of decent sized chips in the edge and tons of scratches and dings on the bolsters, but all in all it seemed to be pretty solid. I picked the 503 up for a couple of dollars and brought it home. Job #1 was to see if it would clean up. Not sure what it was all over the blade but it washed right off. Then I broke out the stones and started working on the edge. I got most of the chips out and was quite impressed with the finished edge. I've carried it around today and have used it a bunch, from opening a new box of cereal to working on some motorcycle wiring. I am really pleased with how well it hides in my pocket, you barely know it is there.

I think I will make this my EDC for the upcoming week and see how I like it after a week of use.

Thanks folks!

Being a slipjoint fan, it is really weird having to unlock a knife via the bolster.

This morning I woke up and said to myself,,, "Well self, you should carry all your buck knives. After all, you don't have but three." So I dug out this 284 that my son gave me several years back. It served me quite well today.

Yep,,, there are not many micarta handled trads that qualify as both quality and affordable.

Today I carried the 112, which is my third and final Buck knife ( at least for now ). No real uses for it today though,,, did use it to trim a piece of heat shrink. I'm sure it will find itself very well used next month during Nix's 30 Day Ranger Challenge.

So I figured that if I have used all my Buck knives back to back,,, maybe it would qualify for a Buck Users Badge?,,,, Maybe? Request for the badge initiated.
