Just got back from heaven...
on: November 11, 2016, 04:31:32 PM
So, today is a day off for most people, in most countries I guess.

So the girlfriend and I decided to go on a flea market hunt, since the weather is quite "naaah".

We went to 2 indoor flea markets.
1st was quite a bummer.
Lots of people, nothing of interest, except for a Wenger (Vic's Spartan equivalent) which was way too expensive.

After lunch, on to nr2.
It became obvious quite fast that nr2 was mostly child/baby related stuff.

But then...

In the middle of the huge room...

One stand, three tables...

ALL SAK's and multitools! :ahhh
TSA seized.

Never seen anything like it.
The stuff ranged from:
Gerbers: multipliers, mp400, mp600, dime, ...

Leatherman: squirt (multiple versions) wave, charge, charge AL&TI without/with nylon/leather sheath.

Wenger: 2 to 5 layers, some with locking blade, a few Rangers.

Victorinox: 2 to 5 layers, Swisschamps, Swisstools (no Spirits though), 111mm's...

A SOG

You name it, the dude had it.

Prices were awesome! If I wasn't on a budget right now (just bought a house) I probably would have bought half his stuff.

So I narrowed it down to 2 pieces that I wanted quite some time now.

A Swisschamp, or a full option Cybertool Lite.

After 15min  -_-'  of deciding, I found out that the light, driver and bitholder on the cybertool take up quite some space.

Space that's filled in with other usefull stuff in the Swisschamp.

Price was €25 for the Swisschamp, €35 for the Cybertool.

Swisschamp was newer (learned a lot about date determination since I joined here) and had plus scales.
The cybertool was older, dirtier and had no plus tools.

I was fixed on taking just one and went with the Swisschamp.
There was 1 Champ pouch on the table that I grabbed too (€10)

Then my girlfriend (who lost her patience 10min earlier) stated that she wanted to buy it for me, to put underneath the Christmas tree.

After hearing that, the dude promptly gave a €5 discount, bringing the total on €30

Although I still fancy a Cybertool, I realise the driver isn't worth the bulk for what I'd use it for.
It would be a collection piece. (Was dirt cheap though...)
But I'm still young. I might run into that guy again later on and then I can look for a Cybertool.

My girlfriend will give me the Vic in a few minutes so I can clean and polish it.
After that it'll go into a box 'till the 24th of dec.

I'll take a few quick snaps for you guys as a sneek peak though!

I think that I should have a little stash of money(100EUR?) to be left alone, except in case of an event like this happening to me.  :gimme: :climber:

Naturaly I picked out the best looking one.

Deal breaker on the CT Lite was the fact that the light didn't work.
Might be just a dead battery, but the battery might have leaked...

On top of that: I've always got dedicated drivers at hand everywhere I go (work, home, car)

Might just lose the bits out in the woods.

Going back next year for SURE! Bummer if he isn't there then xD

I feel so much envy for your flea markets and garage sales.
I also feel envy for your day off today? Why is that?

In memory of the ending of world war 1.
(world war 1 ended the 11th of nov. 1918)

We honor the people who died in the wars after 1914.

Everyone gets a day off and there are some ceremonies you can witness. Especialy at war cemeterys, at the grave of the unknown soldier.

November 11th is commonly called Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in a number of countries and Veterans' Day in the US. It was started by the King of England hosting a banquet in honor of the President of the France on the evening of November 10th, 1919, with an official observance at Buckingham Palace the next day (Nov 11th), a year after the war ended. In addition to Belgium, it's observed by France, UK, Canada, some additional Commonwealth countries, US, Poland (their Independence Day), and now Serbia for the past several years. Italy observes it a week earlier on November 4th. That is when their Armistice with Austria-Hungary took effect, ending WWI for them.

It's a Federal Holiday in the US for federal, state and local government offices and employees, along with some public schools. Most businesses do not have the day off from work, though. In the US it honors all military veterans, living and dead, as Memorial Day in May honors the war dead, dating back to our Civil War in the 1860's (originally Decoration Day to decorate their graves).

Nice background info. Thank you.

Here in Belgium it's called "silence of arms" litteraly translated.

Thank you for the info. We don't celebrate it in my country and I understand why. Here the WWI started in 1912 and ended in 1922 (Balcan Wars I and II before the Great War and Asia Minor Campaign afterwards, and a Civil War during). In a similar manner, as Spain's Civil War was a prelude to WWII, the battle of Athens 1944-45 and Civil War 1946-49 was an epilogue here, so the fall of Berlin didn't end the war for our grandfathers.

It's observed in the UK, but we don't get the day off work (not even state-employees) I've also never seen any good multitools or SAKs at our flea markets :-(

Couldn't believe nobody bought it before me...
