Evogrip Users Fan Club?
on: November 22, 2016, 05:35:22 PM
Amici,
Just thought I would start this thread to see if there are any fans of the slightly maligned Evogrip series from either Wenger of Victorinox?

Here's mine, a Wenger Evo 18 with locking blade along with a AAA Brass Maratac.. Although the concept of a locking blade was ideal in theory at the time, the final execution was more than lacking.. Regardless, it still is a great user for office/sheeple EDC, and I still occasionally EDC mine. Actually, plan on picking up one the the non locking hybrids now produced by Vic plus in a very cool red.

Cheers,
Serge

These are my ones.
One of the nice things about the Realtree Evogrips is that the plastic is matt and doesn't immediately gather fingerprints.

What model is that? Never saw a 85mm with gutting blade.

Thought I had more but in the 85mm EvoGrip only three. First is a Victorinox S557, my favorite among all the 85mm Evolution, Wenger and Victorinox. It's not the EvoGrip scales, but the tool set.

Also have a Wenger EvoGrip 11 Blackout. It was the MultiTool 7th Anniversary knife and is a shelf queen.

The third one is the Wenger EvoGrip 64, which isn't in the SAKWiki. This is Wenger's Evolution version of Victorinox's Apprentice.

This is a great idea!  I'm not near any of mine at the moment but my latest is a Patagonia S18.  One of my all time favorites is my Evo fisherman.

Amici,

Please limit your posts to EVOGRIPS, not EVOLUTIONS... I know it can get a tad confusing, but let's try to give the grips the acknowledgment they deserve, be they Wenger, Victorinox, or the new in-between hybrid..

But that's not a bad idea for a new thread.. :like:

Cheers,

Sorry about messing things up right at the start...
Hopefully this Victoriwenger is a more suitable contribution. (I haven't been outside with it yet so I don't have any nice pictures but I will take some soon.)
It's a lot nicer than this picture suggests!

A bit of history first with the Wenger Evolution S17, and then in the next picture, the reincarnation as a Victorinox EvoGrip.

Red Rinaldi Gambit & SAKS - Wenger Evolution S17, Victorinox Outrider

85mm Victorinox Swiss Army EvoGrip S17 above the Cold Steel Finn Wolf with tri-ad lock, and Lucky pen knife.

I was recently giving the Vic EvoGrip some pocket time and using Gorilla Duct Tape. The blade cut fine, but the scissors jammed up or were sprung.  :( Although I was always a bit ambivalent as to which style of scissors I preferred, I am definitely leaning towards the Victorinox style. As to the tape, it is incredibly sticky, but the adhesive layer is so thick it tends to migrate or let go. So it seems to hold great at first, but then starts coming off or moving.  :(

Got a few myself. Especially Love the S17 (also got the EVO one, not just the EVO Grip ones) plus an S557 is on it's way.

Wenger and Vic S17

Wenger Ranger/Ranger Grips and one Vic RangerGrip. Followed by an East Ranger and Rescue II

The East Ranger is the Ranger Grip 86, in this specific colour with this specific toolset.
Initially made by a custom order of a russian guns forum, later also made for a second batch for Bulgaria. Mine is one of the later batch, as it has no engraving on the blade. (Like the Rescue and Rescue II generally not available off the shelf). -> East Ranger

The Rescue II (like the Rescue I) ist the Wenger Ranger Grip 95 (respectively Ranger Grip 88 for the Rescue I). In case of the Rescue II, it has the same toolset as the East Ranger plus pliers. The Rescue I has almost the same toolset but with a special reamer INSTEAD of the corkscrew. (So additionally to the usual reamer). The Rescue was made due to demands of the Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Service (Therefore having their Logo in the Scales). -> Rescue II

My Patagonia S18.  I agree about the scissors and the Gorilla tape.  The Vic scissors don't bind the way the Wenger scissors have.  I still love the design though!
