Interesting story on those marks.
I have about a dozen SI's and soldiers on the shelf right now, i'll check 'em out for marks when I get home

I'm 1 out of 6... Have a '81 '91 '94 '06 Soldier, a KL83 and an '06 Soldat...

Only the '06 Soldier has the marks on the inside... a diagonal across 4 lines...

Regarding marks on the inside of alox scales, I found this thread:

https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,27405.msg482143.html#msg482143

First time I heard of it, kaput was asking, here:

https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,53842.msg1292799.html#msg1292799

Now that I think of it, I haven't sent Victorinox an e-mail to ask    :-[

Thanks for the info firiki :)

After reading those threads I am coming down on the side of the mold theory. That is that they are markings indicating which molds create which parts.

The only thing which I don't get is why they are only on one scale, you would think they would be on both.  :ahhh

Unless perhaps they were deeper on one scale and what we see is what remains after being milled off. In all honesty I am not sure how they actually manufacture the scales but I would assume a mold, a press then some kind of milling.   ???
Anyone know for sure?

Got my SIs and Soldiers back under the hand,

Victorinox KL89 has a 89 scribed inside,
Wenger SI '91 has nothing
Victorinox Soldier '03 has nothing either
Wenger Swiss Army 70 from 2008-2012? has the 4 parallel strikes + 5th angled one

Thank you,
And today I added a twin to the Wenger 10 70 01 ... Just to compare the marks inside ... and keep one NIB and use the other one.

My two Wenger 10 70 01 have the same pattern inside :
the IIII striked appears to be fairly identical
And I also noticed that on the other scale they also have a kind of snake shaped mark (could only take the pic for one)

Considering they are from the same dealer and the above markings, I suppose they are from the same manufacturing batch and that the identical markings would indicate that they are on the mold.

But all this still doesn't give us an answer about 'why'

I have the same snake mark on the opposite scale too, I didn't mention it before as I thought it was a scratch. Now I am not to sure.  ???

I made an SI Video. I discuss the bail.   Mags will probably think it's terrible.  :D

Another terrible great vid Swiss Army Dan  :D :salute:

Seriously though - what's not to love about the hollow rivet? Those who like a lanyard can have a lanyard, and those who don't can remove the bail and toss it in the bin/at their enemy/through their nose, whatever!

I believe the bail is only provided on the issue SI's so it can be used as an angle indicator for firing mortars (or maybe I dreamed that). Also, I think there are some Vic Soldiers with bails - hopefully someone more knowledgable than me will verify/disregard that.

'Bailgate' can easily be solved with just a little forethought before closing your SI - you should always be concentrating when using a knife anyway so there's no excuse you hear me? NO EXCUSE! Young scallywags.

"Bailgate" hahaha ... pretty close to  "Bill Gates"

Sometimes that forethought may be better spent on focusing on the task at hand and not having to make special accommodations for a frivolous addition to the otherwise awesome knife.  :o  :pok:  :D

Someone please show me this white stag that Mag's is referring to.  Please.
