For cigar lovers
on: September 12, 2008, 11:20:02 PM
Here's a Wenger I picked up a few years ago.  Leather scales, cigar cutter, and the usual goodies.  I love it, my only complain is that the blade spring seems a little weak, and doesn't seem to hold as firm as the ones on my Vics.

Nice find mate :), and it looks in pretty good shape too.

I love the fact that Wenger aren't afraid to offer odd tool's and combination's. I just hope Vic still allows them to continue doing it :)

I found it at the big sporting goods store here.  The scales had a bit of a pattern and the Wenger cross embossed back then, but those seem to have worn off in my pocket.  This was an EDC until recently, I'm getting kind of nervous about using the blade for anything serious.  It doesn't take much force at all to start it closing.  Anyone know of a way to make the spring a little stiffer?

Not as far as I know, and weak spring's are fairly endemic to Wengers :(

Your best bet would be to send it in for a service, stating that you want it returned and not replaced :)

Ugh today I went to use the nail file and it just wobbles back and forth.  Does Wenger have an address to send knives back for warranty work?

Keep in mind that Wenger seems to have changed their warranty to only 5 years:(

True, but I'd still be inclined to send it in anyway, as that model predates the 5 year warrenty rubbish :)

I'm in the US.  I didn't see any obvious repair place on their web site.

Yeah I just noticed the warranty thing myself.  I was very disappointed in that...especially since they're owned by Vic .  Are they making Wenger their cheap brand?

In any event, I bought it new in 2005, so I should be fine.

I'd make this your first port of call then  :) http://www.wenger.ch/scripts/Modules/Customers/Dealers.aspx?idn=15&Country=us&Continent=3&idC=1 , maybe send them an email and take it from there :)

Oddly enough, Wenger US apparently still has a lifetime warranty...?  ???

The instructions and address for repairs in the US are also on that page.

So we not only pay more than you guys in the US, but we also get less warranty.  That is really bad and would put me off buying from them in the furure out of princible.  >:(

Well I sent the Wenger out last Thursday.  I got it back today!  Actually I got a brand-new knife in a nice box!  I'm very pleased, I was not expecting this.  It's gorgeous, this time it's not going to bang around in my pocket with my keys, it's going to be treated with respect  :climber:
