Hanowa Watches
on: December 02, 2016, 03:08:20 PM
So guys,

What do you know about Hanowa Watches?
Would you consider them "true Swiss Army Watches"?
How do they compare quality-wise with Voctorinox/Wenger/Casio?

Also.. do you find this watch to be cool & classy? (I like it more than most of what Wnger/Vic have)

It all starts with what's on the inside.
Inhouse made? Bought from third party? If so: swiss, japanese, chinese?

You can buy watches with a Miyota chronograph movement for $20, you can buy branded watches with the same movement for $120

If both watches contain the same movement, their inner quality is the same.

Bringing us to:
Build quality: what's each watch made from?
Compare a steel watch case from one brand with a steel watch case from another one, don't compare Ti to steel.
Screw back or snap back?
Waterproof rating?
Glass construction:
Plastic, glass, saphire glass?

Lot's of things to compare.
A watch is not just a watch you know...

Aah... I want a pretty wantch, dark front, leather strap, light, glowy hands, not a chronographer, with white cross on it and... yeah if it approximtely tells time it would be even better  :D

I have a Casio Chronograph (great watch but far too heavy) and a Casio G-Shock (great rugged watch, but not dressy enough)... plus they're both Japanese.. I want a Swiss-ish one...

Not white cross, but think it fits the bill on the other fronts.

I think Seiko might have stuff you like.

Decent, modern watches, well known, and it sets a high bar of standards in Japanese movements.

Or just buy a Hanowa...
What price is it?

That's not to much for a dress watch.

Is there a webpage that shows model number and specs?

I'll look in to it for you to see what the movement compares to.

This is the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/mens-swiss-military-hanowa-watch-black-dial-date-window-brown-leather-strap/322066686373

This is their website: http://swissmilitary.ch/collection/

But for the life of me I can't find this exact model on their website... I reckon it might be an old version of the Navallus...

Sorry mate! Lost track of your thread for a while :twak:

I did some research, and it seems like Hanowa uses genuine Swiss watch movements from companies like ETA, but also Japanse made/swiss build movements which aren't all that bad either.

You should, for the price, get a more than decent Swiss made/built watch.

Looked further,
This watch contains an isa 2331 movement.
Swiss assembly, which means the parts were probably build in Japan and put together in Switserland. Don't misunderestimate the Japanese though, they create awesome movements!

This is the exact same watch:

What about this one?

It looks similar to the Hanowa but has better reviews (queue the Swiza hate):
