Electrician's Knives!
on: December 25, 2016, 02:32:06 AM
Electrician's knives are one of my favorite patterns for carry and use, in addition to the Stockman.    They've been made since the '20s, when many places didn't have electricity, and radio was still in its infancy.  Many were called "Radio Knives" by their makers.

Most include just two blades, a drop point and a combination wire stripping/screwdriver blade.  But, many configurations exist.  Three blade, sheepsfoot, clip point, or hawkbill blade replacing the drop point, the screwdriver blade being replaced by a Romex slitter blade, etc.   The Romex blade, it seems, is exclusive to knives made for Klein Tools by Kutmaster/Utica.   Clip Point is exclusive to knives made for advertising use by Colonial that utilized a Barlow frame.   Sheepsfoot is exclusive to the Ric-Nor "Electric Mate" series of the '70s.   In the '20s and '30s, many had blades that opened from opposite ends.

This is one I carry a lot, a Case 62031 LHR by Camillus. It's the one I carry the most, actually. This oddball pattern seems to be popular with coal miners, it seems.   These were often issued to miners in the '80s and '90s.   The only electrician's knives I've seen in the knife store here is a Bear and Son in this configuration.

I love my electricians, especially my Camillus TL-29's. I have several, and have gifted a bunch over the years. My regular carry one is from the mid-70's. Gotta find a pic of it. :tu:
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

I found this TL29 at a flea market mine was a military knife.  When I was researching the knife I found new Camillus New old stock York TL29 knives for 30.00 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Camillus-Electricial-Lineman-Folding-Vintage/dp/B01GDC33RU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489898382&sr=8-1&keywords=tl29+knife

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

This is my Dad's Klein Electrician's knife from the late '40s - early '50s. He used it for his whole 50 year career as an electrician. It still lives clipped to his tool pouch.
