And Another Canadian
on: December 25, 2016, 07:14:55 PM
New lurker here signing up and checking in from Canada.

My late Dad carried pocket knives since before I can remember. And as is quite common he passed the gene on. Bought me throw aways until I was responsible enough to own a new Schrade Oldtimer and not leave it out in the rain.
And I knew I'd passed the gene on to my daughter when we went to a sporting goods store for anything but knives or multitools a few years ago. She was already 13, zeroed in on a Victorinox Tinker in Camo under the glass counter, and couldn't leave without it. She still carries it. I knew then my wife and  I were doing something right 😁

Great website here and learning a few new things, too!

Welcome to the forum!

Where in Canada are you?  I recently moved from Halifax to Ottawa, but at the moment I'm in Moncton for Christmas.

I guess you could say I get around a bit! :D

Well from there you keep driving south until it gets really flat and boring. Then you keep driving south s'more. Until the Canadians almost seem American. Then you're here . We head your way to do some cottaging around Lanark and the Sharbot Lake area. Beautiful scenery!

Looks like we are almost neighbors then!  Sharbot Lake is one of the places we have been looking at to go camping and kayaking.

I was actually born in Kingston but it's one of the towns I have spent very little time in and I plan to rectify that as much as possible this summer.  :D

We haven't done much South of Ottaws (yet) as most of our excursions seem to be East (Montreal, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia) or West (Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury) and occasionally North (Wakefield, Gatineau Park, Bouchette) but South always seems like a good plan this time of year! :D

I can't recommend Sharbot Lake and area enough. Lots of rock and small, clear lakes. Great hiking and fishing.

As of 30 years ago I can say I've lived out west and back a few times. Haven't been east of Brockville. Really need to visit the Maritimes some day. Someone from New Brunswick once told me that if I thought the Rockies were beautiful, New Brunswick in the fall is more beautiful.
A tour of the Grohmanns plant in Nova Scotia would be phenomenal. Admittedly I have/use a couple of their fixed blade offerings, too.

Make that one more Canadian. Greater Toronto Area here, originally from Northern ON. I've been using SAK's and multitools for years and carry one (or more) daily. Cheers all!

Northern Ontario huh?  Where abouts?  My family is mostly spread out between Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury.

You didn't by any chance have a teacher in SSM named Dan Sauve did you?

I'm in Ottawa now, having recently come here from Halifax.

I don't recall having a teacher by that name. I left in 1998 and had been out of school a few years by that point.
