Tilley for me, and sometimes I swap that for the old olive MTO cap.

This time of year though, more often than not I'll wear a toque, what some of you might call a wool cap, skullcap, skully or beanie.

It doesn't matter much what you call it, it's a necessity for life in Canada for at least a third of the year.

Bucket hats for me. Good sun protection and shade even from the side.

But I've been known to wear a flat cap on occasion.

Those are cute, but I need the larger brim so it covers my neck,

We have other words for toques, and they're not worn on the head  :D.

I like boonies and fake tilleys. Real Tilleys are too expensive. (Edit: my headwear has a tendency to go MIA).

I used to have a Barmah Sundowner Roo, but that went missing ages ago. I decided not to replace it like-for-like, as the brim "danced" a bit too much when it was windy.

Instead, I replaced it with a tarp hat, which has been an excellent summer hat for a couple of years now.
(not my hat, just a sample picture)

Aside from that, I have a few beanies (which I believe some call watch caps).

However, since having to give up driving, I've been looking into hats for foul weather. Ones that are warm-ish, but won't boil my brain if it's notbelow freezing, will handle rain (even if completely waterproof - just so the hat doesn't get ruined), and won't blow off if it's a bit windy... but without needing a chin strap. Also, as I travel on foot, and wear glasses, a peak to keep the rain off my specs is a big bonus.

I have got a thinsulate waterproof cap with peak, with the fold down surround for your ears and back of your head, which is great in freezing rain, or in real icy conditions, but if it's raining and not freezing, it gets far too warm. So I'm sorted for summer sun, wet and freezing, dry and freezing, but not for spring or autumn rains, or summer rains for that matter.

As it's never easy to get the solution to all problems with one item, i've been looking at these two.

The weathered cotton trilby looks like it should lend itself to an application of wax dressing, as used on waxed jackets. Being cotton, I'd probably be able to stuff it in a pocket when not needed too. While I could do this with the tarp hat, that might stop it being a summer hat, as the dressing would "melt" in summer heat, and potentially leech through to my hair. The newsboy cap should survive a shower too, but be a little on the warmer side when the temperature drops.

I decided to order those two hats earlier today. I've never owned a trilby or flat cap before, so why not. Besides which, the weather's started getting noticeably cooler and wetter, so time to get a move on and order something. I've already got some wax dressing to waterproof the trilby.

Walking the dog... is that some kind of euphemism?...

This thread needs a bump!!!

Although I'm a girl, I love to wear baseballcaps. Like the Under Armour ones very much.

Or my trustworthy Nike cap from FC Barcelona.

And when it's really cold. A beanie with a fleece band on the inside.

Oh, and because it's almost Christmas.

I don’t think I ever posted my lighted cap, it will have to wait since the Mrs is still sleeping and I’m not going in to get it to take pics!
Anyway, it uses watch battery’s and has 4 led’s built into the brim with a little button, sounds kinda weird but you’d never really know it’s all there, I’m going to be getting patches to put on so I can show my support rather then like the pins on my current hat this way if I get bumped it won’t be as painful, lol..

Ok, here’s the hat I was talking about, I tried marking it up to help understand.
As you can see there’s 4leds, two that point out and two that point a little more down to give you a better overall lighting, the switch is a little push button that’s a clicker, just a on/off, and the batteries are in that little compartment that tucks in that little section so you don’t even know it’s there. I have another one but it’s stitched with a manufacture and I want one I can cover with patches..

I have one similar. Mine has a light facing foreward with another facing 45 degrees under the brim. I can have either or both on. Love this hat as the under lamp lights the ground and the foreward light shines the way. My only issue...the light switch is hard to find under the hat brim.

Interesting, this one the switch is just like a bubble, but it’s not to hard to find, I kinda wish it was on the right side rather then left being right handed..
